Onyarekowa

Onyarekowa initially referring to the myth of a dragon-like horned water serpent of Haudenosaunee legend, lurking in the Great Lakes to capsize canoes and eat people. Its breath was often said to be poisonous. In some Haudenosaunee traditions, the Onyare would spare travelers who made offerings to it. In others, the people could protect themselves by invoking the thunder god Hinon, mortal enemy of the Onyare. The name onyare simply means "snake" in Mohawk; Onyarekowa means "great snake." When dragons started hatching in the world, the Haudenosaunee named them Onyarekowa.

Breed

The Onyarekowa is a breed of dragon native to the Great Lakes and north east of the North American continent. Classified as a middleweight breed, they average 12 tons. Their bodies are covered in dark silver scales with dark blue accents. Toward their heads, their coloring shifts to dark blue with silver accents. One of the breeds most unique features is three distinct silver horns on their head, two towards the front, one towards the back. These horns tend to be very sensitive to touch and provide some measure of sense for the Onyarekowa. Their special breed ability is a poison spray that cannot be easily diluted or cleaned with water. Skilled Onyarekowa are able to use the beat of their wings to turn the spray into a mist for more of an area attack, while the spray itself is a targeted line. The Onyarekowa are native to the costal areas and prefer to be in and around water.
