Banfirda

Banfirda is a kingdom on the southwesternmost Plain of Kings in eastern Dragonía, bordering Yfrigía to the northwest, East-Óltrat to the north, South-Eila to the northeast, Úlb to the east, Þrihakía to the southwest and the Plain of Spirits to the southwest.
Its capital is Fírot.

History

The region which is now known as Banfirda was settled relatively early in Mörkel history, particularly around Lake Naba in its center, which was one of the largest of its kind on the Plain of Kings until it dried up during the fourth century a.Dr.
In 249 a.Dr the region was unified by the Banfír dynasty, centered around the town -and later city- of Fírehas on the northern shore of Naba Lake, at first as a reaction to invading Þrihaks from the south and later began conquering other tribes to the north, in modern southern East-Óltrat. The banfirdans waged a number of proxy (and sometimes direct) wars against the rival Tosleþais dynasty of Óltrat to the north over control of the tribes between the great powers, culminating in a decisive victory in 326 a.Dr when the óltratic king Óhas I Tosleþais was captured and offered to the gods as sacrifice.
Banfirda's golden age was short though, its influence declined after the rise of the Leþúrí dynasty in Óltrat and especially when Naba Lake all but disappeared in the late fourth century. The capital was moved to Fírot around Hysal Lake to the west, and while the Banfír dynasty continued fighting Óltrat, its power was diminished.
The kingdom was conquered in 540 a.Dr. by the Yfrigíans, initially as a base for a planned invasion of Þrihakía (which was never quite realized) and later became a vanguard against the Þrihaks.
The modern kingdom of Banfirda was founded when the Yfrigían Empire splintered due to a succession crisis, and today serves as a gateway between western and central Plain of Kings. Goods from Þrihakía and even as far south as Ymn Lake are traded there as well. Its current ruler is Ahekós I.

Structure

Like East-Óltrat, Banfirda is relatively sparsely populated, with most people outside Fírot either living in villages around lakes and wells or as semi-nomads, although the region is not nearly as decentralized as the former.
