Yfrigía

Yfrigía is the westernmost Mörkel kingdom on the Plain of Kings, bordering West-Óltrat to the north, East-Óltrat to the east and Banfirda to the southeast.

History

The region which is now Yfrigía was ruled by a number of tribes, whose ferocity toward outsiders kept them out of the dynastic wars between Óltrat and Banfirda, the major powers of western Plain of Kings at the time. This changed in the early sixth century, when the Yfrigíans united their nighbouring tribes, and especially in 530 a.Dr, when Yfrigía invaded Óltrat in the aftermath of a particularly devastating war between the two powers.
A decade later, the western plain was fully under Yfrigían control and the region experienced a century of unprecedented time of (relative) peace. As further expansion east towards Fekai Lake and south into Þrihak territory proved unsuccessful, the Yfrigían Empire slowly began to decline. A succession crisis followed the sudden death of Fógrik IV and his grieving widow (who was entombed alive with her husband by her own order), culminating into a civil war in the eight century.
Modern Yfrigía emerged during this time, and for many years its king Leþit I tried to revive the empire until he failed to capture Fírot, capital of Banfirda, in 769 a.Dr. His daughter Leþísa I is the current ruler of Yfrigía.

Structure

Aside from the ruling Yfrigíans, the land is home to four other tribes, namely the Aþórans, Tenrans, Yfúkíans and Yrites, each with their own province centered around their main settlement. Their chiefs are responsible for paying annual tribute to the monarch in the form of goods and -in times of war- their best warriors. The goods are recorded and stored in the palace of Óvar or redistributed to the populace as seen fit.

Warfare

Warriors from each tribe in Yfrigía specializes in the use of certain weapons; Aþórans shoot with slings, Tenrans are skilled with axes, Yfrigíans prefer swords, Yfúkíans use spears and Yrites throw javelins. Only kings and elite warriors use bronze armour and helmets, others have to make do with leather armour and shields made of either leather or tírúa shells.
