Emnaa basses
Mlúkrok: Emnaa
Emnaa basses are found in the northern and northeastern Ilkigit Sea, particularly along the southern coast of the Vorran Peninsula in southeastern Dragonía. They are the most common as well as most basal species in their genus, as the other are adapted to life in the sea further west where the sunlight is particularly intense. As such, they lack the distinctive 'brows' above the eyes and instead look much like other tropical fish south of the peninsula.
Much like Vló Salmons on the other side of Vorran Peninsula, emnaa basses migrate each year up certain rivers to spawn, particularly the Súveb River, during which the reptilian Kroks from the territories of Úsavrí to the west and Varr to the east catch the bass in large quantities and serve it at festivals.
Since the migrations happen around the time Krok eggs hatch, the bass is traditionally the first thing which the hatchlings get to eat, and different dishes made with the fish are reserved for Kroks at different stages in life. The recipes gradually become more complex and flavourful, with hatchlings eating simple boiled fish while elders enjoy a dish containing various fruits, vegetables and rare spices such as övúb from the Tvemna Mountains or ólyn from Ela'k Forest.
