Kóvúrt
Kóvúrt is a Mörkel country on the central Plain of Kings in eastern Dragonía, south of Fekai Lake. It's bordered by Úlb to the west, Þrihakía to the south (the territory Abarfó to the southwest and Nystekal to the southeast) and Aralrar to the east.
Its capital is Nyrsak.
The king's brother, Lóparik, offered to take the priest's on the condition of wearing a helmet during the duel, which Ehen accepted. Fortunately for Lóparik, the Minotaur -accustomed to the desert heat around Ymn Lake- had a cold and only managed to knock him out. After Ehen left with the manuscript, the nobles silently agreed to never receive another Minotaur to the court.
The meeting was later described in the Tale of Ehen2, in 368 a.Dr.
The inhabitants belong to one of five tribes, namely the Hanrans, Hirílans, Meþrókans, Onneks and Þrúsks. Only the ruling Meþrókans are ethnic Mörkels, the rest are Þrihaks who have adopted sedentary lifestyle, Mörkel culture and religion to some extend, especially those to the north.
Traditional weapons include javelins and daggers. Only nobles can afford bronze weapons and arms, the rest uses all sorts of leather armour along with light shields, if even that.
Its capital is Nyrsak.
History
Kóvúrt became the only Mörkel country along with Póletrót to have a Minotaur visit the court in 359 a.Dr. The meeting generally went well until the end, when Ehen1 asked for an illustrated manuscript belonging to the high priest of Aþar as a parting gift. When the priest refused, the Minotaur challenged him to butt their heads together to resolve the disagreement, as was custom among his people. The king's brother, Lóparik, offered to take the priest's on the condition of wearing a helmet during the duel, which Ehen accepted. Structure
Kóvúrt is unique among the Mörkel states for being a diarchy rather than a kingdom, with a joint rule of a king and high priest of Aþar, though they have different responsibilities.
Warfare
The warriors of Kóvúrt are particularly hardy, as even nobles are required to spend some time training in the harsher southern regions. There they learn not only combat techniques (including various forms of Þrihak wrestling), but how to live off the land, endure searing heat during the day and cold nights, all of which to make them accustomed to virtually any hardship.Traditional weapons include javelins and daggers. Only nobles can afford bronze weapons and arms, the rest uses all sorts of leather armour along with light shields, if even that.
1A corruption of the Minotaur's real name, Úhúúm.
2Original icelandic: Ehenskvæði.
