Lydnar
Lydnar is an ancient city in western Kanot, one of the three countries of the Útels, located where the Háv'þal River splits from the Þán River in western Ela'k Forest. It's the main settlement of the Veans, one of the three Útel tribes in the country along with Kalotics to the north and Þandans to the south, and once functioned as capital of the city-state of Vea before Útels were unified.
Lydnar, along with the town of Þahót to the north, are the only major settlements in this relatively isolated region between the rivers, which is otherwise dotted with a few dozen villages. The reason for this is because most of the land is set aside for wild game and, more importantly, Velí Butterflies; the Lydnari gather velí caterpillars in huge quantities when in season, more so than anywhere else in Ela'k Forest.
The caterpillars are an important part of Lydnari and Vean cuisine in general, and Útels from neigbouring towns and even outside Kanot often visit Lydnar to try out the various dishes made with the caterpillars. Smoked and spiced caterpillars served with onion are especially popular.

Geography
Lydnar is located by the steep, rocky west bank of the rivers Þán and Háv'þal, with numerous ancient stairways carved into the rock to allow easier access to water, and traffic between the region and the rest of Ela'k Forest is facilitated via a pair of wooden bridges of equally great age, one leading south and the other northeast.
The city is roughly wedge-shaped, but otherwise planned similarly to other Útel settlements, with neighbourhoods for different castes surrounding a marketplace.
The rugged terrain is the main reason for the Lydnari's reliance on velí butterflies, wild game and plants for food, as it's poorly suited for most traditional crops and livestock for the most part.
