Veans
The Veans1 live in and around the city of Lydnar, between the Þán River and Háv'þal River in western Kanot. This small region, called Vea after the ancient city-state, is relatively isolated from the rest of Ela'k Forest and as such Vean traditions and customs differ in a lot of ways from the mainstream Útel culture. In particular, Ela'k is venerated to the point that some worship him exclusively.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Vean dialects contain a number of archaic pronunciations and words, and there's a tendency to speak a little slower than the average Útel.
Culture and cultural heritage
Cuisine
As with the Þandans to the south, Veans are especially fond of eating caterpillars of Velí Butterflies native to the western woods. After removing the innards, the caterpillars are smoked and often served with onions and select spices.Common Dress code
Vean clothing is very similar to what's Útels wear in the rest of Ela'k Forest, with a preference for yellow and orange colours.
Common Myths and Legends
Ela'k is especially worshipped in Vea, to the point that it's the only region where the Cult of Zerrhúai has a significant following. This branch of Útel religion is notable for practicing a kind of monotheism, where only Ela'k is worthy of direct worship, while the ancestors are merely honoured rather than prayed to.
