Swamp saffron1 is a flowering plant endemic to the Vorran Peninsula in western Dragonía, native specifically to the area stretching from the Savrí Lakes to Haþem Lake on the central and mid-eastern peninsula. The local reptilian Kroks have since introduced the plants throughout the region, growing the flowers for the stigma and styles to produce a bright green pigment to dye Tree Silk cloth. The flowers are intensely bitter and thus has no culinary value.
As with common saffron grown in southern and southeastern Dragonía, harvesting swamp saffron threads is a highly labor-intensive process that's traditionally done by select few villages within each territory, though since trade-routes were established with the subterranean Jaarels of the Vúrakesen Mountains to the east, demand for the dye has increased and now involves Kroks from all over their home territories.
Currently, the centers of swamp saffron cultivation are the territories of Kveb, Lóal and Úsavrí.
