The Blood Brooch

The Blood Witches was an organisation shrouded in mystery, and very little is known of them. During their time, from the early 1800s to the first decades of the 1900s, they were believed to be one of the most powerful witches - some say thanks to the blood sacrifices they used to gain more power. While this is more likely just a story weaved by someone who didn't like powerful women in the field of magic, the name of the Blood Witches still has a similar effect to The Graves' Six: both have achieved almost a boogeyman-like reputation among those in the know of the arcane. Thus, the Blood Brooches, once worn by the Blood Witches as a symbol of their sisterhood, are nowadays believed to be cursed items, in which the Witches stored the blood, and the magical power, of their victims. While most of the brooches were lost when the sisterhood was disolved, some still surface in the black market auctions, and they are actually a very wanted item in certain darker circles of collectors.

History

Blood Brooches were worn by the members of the sisterhood of The Blood Witches, or the Red Sisterhood like they called themselves. After the organisation was disolved, most of the brooches were either hidden or destroyed. A few years afterwards, first pieces started to appear on the black market.

The base of the brooches was made of gold, in the traditional oval shape. The stone was red, but the actual material is unknown: rubies, carnelians and garnets have been suggested as an options. Some say that the stones were actually white, and the blood sacrifices turned them red.
