The Rose Ceremony
After Squire has proven their worth, they are allowed to take their wow and join the ranks of the Thorn Court as a Thorn Knight . Much like in the olden days, a knighting ceremony is held as a rite of passage to confer knighthood. After the Rose Ceremony, a Thorn Knight is seen as a full member of the order, and they have earned the right to use the honorific Sir/Dame.
History
The history of the Rose Ceremony dates back to the Middle Ages, though its true origin most likely dates back a much longer, to the times before the Fae Realm fell.
Some Fae scholars believe that the similar ceremony of the mundane world was based on the original Rose Ceremony.
Execution
The Rose Ceremony is preferably held during an important date, like one of the Solstices or a full moon, though this is not necessary. It is usually lead by the current Commander of the Red Rose , but if they are unavailable for some reason, one of the Commanders of the Purple Rose can take their place.
During the Ceremony, the squire-to-be-knighted, also know as the accolade, kneels down before the Leader of the Ceremony. The Leader taps the flat side of the Knighting Sword on the shoulders of the accolade, after which they call them to rise, using the honorific "Sir/Dame" for the first time with the name of the newly knighted Thorn Knight . After the new knight has risen, the Leader kisses them on both of their cheeks, welcoming them to the order.
Afterwards, a celebration is held to honor the new knights.
