Session 85
General Summary
Playing Politics 1: Leon of Ragna
With the meeting with Maletshatsi looming in the evening, the trio (and two T-posing friends) enjoyed some elevator music on their way up to the Ragna floor. There, they found that there's some mild renovations happening – namely, patching up a few holes in the wall... perhaps from a fist. Although Leon is not present, take a seat! He'll be back shortly. The two consorts from Ragna Leon arrived with are present, nodding to the group as they entire. With some time to kill, the trio discuss High Lord Valdove's suggestion about an issued apology to the Royal Genasi Families and how GHilani plans to approach speaking to Emir. Ghilani plans to look Emir dead in the eye and ask him if he was involved. Simple as that. As they discuss, it's very apparent that they have two eavesdroppers.
Rani calls over the eavesdroppers. What do you think should be done? Israfel suggested not inviting your own person in to the meeting with Emir. The Grand Priest? Be careful, you should make sure they both like each other before you make the offer. You often have to make a suggestion that gives the other person the illusion of choice, but ultimately resolves to do what you want. And how should we do that? Israfel shrugs. I'm the eyes and ears, not the mouth. That would be Leon's job. Speak of him and he appears, bringing the trio to his office. Be careful what the consorts overhear. Israfel is fine, but Otavion... while he has his uses, sometimes he just can't help himself. Leon has been very busy and it shows. It is difficult to be the new person on the Council during this time. He had a decade to build everything in Ragna... here, he fears he doesn't have that time.
Because of his limited time, he has not been able to dedicate much of his time towards The Doctor. Rayen has not checked in for some time. Last he heard, Mary had returned with Lady La'Talenna to Carmenthia and Rayen was poking around in the sewers. Leon was happy to arrange a meeting with the drow and promised to send word that he should meet the group at their boat at night – stealthily, of course.
When The Deep End mentioned looking into The Doctor, Leon asked what they planned to do IF they found something. Are you prepared? Do you know what you may face? If this individual has been here for some time, Leon wagers that they would be foolish to not have defenses to face. What does the Doctor NEED to do what he does? Are there any arcane practitioners involved? Besides people, what does he require? Well, you see... he has Volo. Leon is not as bothered by that. How strong is his will? How long does "putting on a pair of arms" take? If Volo is alive, is he an immediate cause for concern?
Speaking bluntly, Leon said that, unfortunately, people may have to continue to die for some time. In Ragna, he took a decade to be in the position to shift the tides of power there. A decade. He gathered information and maneuvered himself so he was ready. Are you in such a position to do so now with this Doctor? Leon continued, you may not want to hear it... but allowing Volo to become something may be your best bet. Perhaps you can apprehend and get information out of him. Who knows, if he is strong enough... perhaps a bit of him will remain.
Despite Leon's apprehension, he mentioned that – should they suspect someone – they must simply say the word... and he will take care of them. Such an action, of course, will remove him from his seat of power, but Leon is willing to risk it. In return, Rani updated Leon on the goings on in Lark'hal. Leon expressed his condolences for what happened to Rani's family. Leon asked who they perceived as the greater, more immediate threat... the Doctor. Have you considered using one to get to the other? Or perhaps pursuing other links. The Pirate Lord was known to have an association. One of you is a "friend of his", yes?
Ghilani asks after the Coliseum: How's Bonebreaker? What about Bonebreaker? Leon's brows furrowed. Have you seen her? Bonebreaker is gone. Noel and Leon still have her phylactery, of course, but apparently Noel is reluctant to use or destroy it. Leon's bid for power clearly was the final straw in Bonebreaker's lingering loyalty to the Warrior Queen Ralla. Regardless, he isn't sure where she has gone.
As they prepare to leave, Rani trusts Noel, but can Leon be trusted? Trust should be placed carefully among politicians. And be advised, everyone has secrets... not all of them may be what you are looking for.

Interlude: the Spoon
Humming along with the elevator music, Ghilani stood between the two parents as they descended back to the main floor. Rani and Declan discussed how they should move forward. Ultimately... the concern is what to tell Newt. Declan mentions that he doesn't think they're ready to completely take on The Doctor... he has some idea of what might be lurking wherever he's hidden. How should they break the topic to Newt? I mean, he sees Volo kind of as a "father" figure. If they don't find something, can Newt be convinced to cool the jets and leave Volo behind? Even IF they find something, are they ready to deal with what they find? Rani comments that their enemies seem to know exactly how to move us... they threatened my family and then Oksha... and we followed so quickly.
Rani suspects Lollith did what she did because she's a crazy fucking piece of shit. She certainly is going to go for the kill when they encounter her next. The parents discussed further: should they let Newt declare his intent to face her and try to draw her out? Best case scenario: there is an epic duel and perhaps they learn something... Worst case: they only provoke her further into harming the people they care about.
As the parents continue their silent discussion in the middle of the main floor of the Tower Citadel... Ghilani is once again perplexed by the vibrating spoon. He starts to walk around, keeping close to the parents until he eventually wandered off completely out of sight. The main floor of the Tower Citadel is large with a variety of gift shops and various museums related to the political and military history of the Tower Citadel and Eredet. Ghilani ends up in the section devoted to the Eredet Guard and the spoon practically starts shaking and hopping out of his hand as he stops in front of a gold ring inlaid with diamonds and a large moonstone. The placard states: "Station Ring of Ghidoran Once-Gold, member of the first Council of Eredet and protector of the city." Oh hey, this spoon was that dude's lover person, right?
The parents finish their conversation to realize they've lost the one non T-posing child. They flagged down a guard. Hey, do you do lost child announcements? Can a 5-foot dark child with a staff and tattoos – Y-you gave your child a tattoo??? Ghilani, after realizing the booming voice was referring to him, made his way back. Hey, I was just following this spoon. Rani and Declan follow him back to the ring. A Curator mentions that the spoon Ghilani has resembles one known to be Vestron's... though he has no idea why it's vibrating. Perhaps you can consult the people you brought it from?
Is this a new sex position: the vibrating spoon?

Playing Politics 2: Emir Maletshatsi
Arriving at the Lark'Hal floor, the group was escorted to a waiting room. Would you like some tea or something else to drink? Ghilani says tea would be lovely! They wait 10 minutes... 20 minutes... 30 minutes. Ah, High Lord Maletshatsi will see you now! The office – sparsely decorated – is dense and heavy as the group takes a seat and the door closes.
Rani begins with an apology and Ghilani – after a heavy pause – follows suit. An apology? "Sorry"? That's what you have to say? Do you have any idea what position you've put me in. Ghilani, undeterred, asks if Emir can look him in the eye and say he has nothing to do with it. Emir responds, aggravated, that he does not make the paint – it's recipe is secret. He cannot say if someone else in the family is not involved, but you did not discriminate in your accusations. Everything I have worked for... ruined by the foolishness of someone I perhaps stupidly trusted. You were chosen as warriors and icons, not as politicians. You should have CONSULTED me on matters pertaining to MY region. I was prepared to be your ALLY. And you have taken what I was willing to give and did give... and tarnished it.
Ghilani fires back: well, I'm sorry your life sucks now, but you know what... I've learned that life is complicated and you know what, it's kind of shitty. But I've died – twice. I put my LIFE on the line for this and hey, I'm not perfect. I didn't say the perfect thing, but if you let me, I can go and show you. I can prove that I'm not lying. I pulled a witch's blood straight out of a painting in the Temple of Lark – done a YEAR ago.
Emir sighs. That doesn't matter in the grand scheme of the political web. Do you know the political situation in Lark'Hal? Emir explained that there are 3 long-term political positions. The Earth Genasi family has not held any of them in nearly a century. THIS was a chance for his family to regain that possibility. Do you know what has occurred in Lark'Hal because of your statement – with or without evidence, true or not? There have been claims that the Earth Genasi family is merely jockeying for power. It has discredited me, my immediate family, and those within my house. Katreus, as well, as been arrested for slander. The First Advisor clearly has grown tired of his complaints against the Queen. Your WORDS alone – true or not – held weight.
Ghilani then asks if Emir believed him. I can show you. Would you believe me then? Rani mentioned the Purge and the blood witches. Emir then reminded the group what they said when they first came before the Council: the ancient wounds of the blood witches have not healed, have they not? Where do your loyalties lie then? Ghilani said to the continent and to the blood witches. THERE lies my concern. How much sway do you have over the blood witches whose wounds are still open? The trio said that they have... most of them in their pocket, so to speak. Frustrated, Ghilani slaps down an apology letter. Here, you know... an apology, for what it's worth. I wrote one. If you would tell me how I can help then maybe I could.
Trust is important. I... am inclined to believe that your accusations are not entirely unfounded. This will be the last time I extend my trust to you. Everything that happens in my region comes through me. You are not to speak on another broadcast unless I vet it. The trio agreed that Emir would deliver the apology and have his sister, Imani, deliver it on behalf of Emir (for "scolding" them for such actions). If what you say is true, then the royal families – those involved, at least – will be on alert. Our job is now more difficult.
Rani then informed Emir that when they had visited the Temple... the entire Heart of the Desert was under a veil of the Dread king. That seemed to concern Emir. Why wouldn't a threat looming over the entire city concern him?
Ghilani then asked about what they had screwed up for Emir. He mentioned that he has been working with Ironborn to secure the movement of his technology to the East. Yes, technology is not everything, but he could springboard the Heart of the Desert into the spotlight among Eredet and Nacheevi, the powerhouses of the continent. This accusation can – and Emir suspects will – be used as leverage against him. He hasn't been able to determine where Ironborn now stands.
Before leaving, Emir also mentioned to Rani that he is aware that Prof. Dunebrook is on a "watch" list so to speak. Her research is of particular interest to the Royal Genasi families. As they left Emir's office, Rani put on quite the show of looking scolded – recalling those times she had been scolded by the Grandmothers.

Unintentionally Lecturing Ironborn to "Do Better"
Rani swings through the public official's office with the other two in tow. Can we see some sewer plans? An attendant mentioned that they don't have any current plans of the District of Judas, but did present other plans from some of the other districts. What are the oldest records you have? The attendant mentioned that they can pull some things from the archives. Come back in the morning.
Moving back towards the boat as the sun began to set, Rani noted a boat about the same size as the Diving Board, though this one is covered in metal scaffolding, pipes, and devoid of any Valdove crest. Approaching the vessel, Ghilani asked what is this. A dwarven man said: "it's a boat". After a brief conversation, the dwarf (Gregory Mik'Kegg) mentioned that he hopes their engine is treating them well – had to blow a wall in part of it to make it all work. Ghilani was confused, but the parents realized that these are the engineers who did the upgrades to the ship.
Ghilani then asked if Ironborn was available while the parents locked eyes: do we REALLY wanna talk to Ironborn right NOW? After waiting a moment, they were brought to Ironborn. The High Lord was underneath the boat's engine and donning simple clothes, a work belt, and covered in grease and grime. Where are you off to Ironborn? I'm going home to Nacheevi. I've handled my affairs here and now I'd like to go home and do what I want for a bit. And... what is it that you want to do exactly? Ironborn sighs. It might be hard for you to believe, but I enjoy building things. Why are you in politics then? Because my genius wasn't being recognized. I saw what my technology could do – the potential it held. The wheel must turn and I decided I'd make damn well sure it did. So I took the platform and learned some politics. Ghilani said that he too has learned how to politic. Ironborn doesn't seem very convinced.
Regardless, Ironborn mentioned that hes resolved what he considered "his affairs". Now, he can go work on his personal battleship for a bit and oversee the production of his Navy. Rani then asks about Ironborn's 20 year plan. Ironborn's city is on the sea – ships always spoke to him (Declan feels that). A navy was a natural implementation. But he also participated in building the Iron Arrow. Not everyone is or will be capable of teleporting, but people should be able to travel. The trio nods, an interconnected continent sounds really nice.
...But what about Ah'Shal? And what about it? Ironborn is uninterested in Ah'Shal provided it continues to meet production levels to support his technological pursuits. Ah yes, enslaving people to work until they die. Rani sours. Ironborn frowns. If you wish to blame me for a system that I merely used and didn't create. So bit it. Declan chimes in: But you could fix it. You put money into that system... you could just not do that. Ironborn sighs. What region do I represent? Nacheevi. Who controls Ah'Shal? The Overlords. Correct. Still, you could change the system. Ironborn seems uninterested in this conversation, but mentions that he will live a long time. When his 20 year plan has been achieved, perhaps Ah'Shal will be the next thing he tackles. Now, is that all of the lecture I'll receive from you today?
Reagrding Underbrink, Ironborn doesn't seem to know too much about hi. He came recommended through Ironbound. The Pirate Lord was also mentioned. Ironborn doesn't believe he's teleporting – Ironborn hasn't been able to get that to work on his battleship and the Floating Tit is much larger. You wouldn't be the first to have their work stolen. Ironborn seemed annoyed by that suggestion. As if he was anyone else. Regardless, Ironborn doesn't seem to care if the Moon Guard succeeds or not; he benefits either way.
If you wish to go to Nacheevi, Ironborn mentioned that his city is governed by the Judges. The High Priest is known as the High (or Supreme) Judge: Isocrates. If you wish to use your favor, Ironborn can certainly arrange a meeting. On impulse, Ghilani casts Prestidigitation on Ironborn and Rani – feigning almost sisterly annoyance – wiped some grease and sweat from Ironborn's brow. Cool, now we can maybe Scry on Ironborn.

A Late Night Visit
Getting back to the boat, Rani passed out notebooks she picked up from the gift shop at the Tower citadel. Rani said they don't have to, but Rani is going to write down every person she even mildly cares about – good and bad – and a sentence about each of them. That way, each morning, she can review them... and see if the Lady of Dread has taken any of them. Declan says he probably doesn't need much... just Thera and Six and you all.
Settled into sleep on the boat, Declan is disturbed by an INSANELY stealthy Rayen. You wanted to talk? Waking up the others, they asked: any updates on the Doctor? Rayen first mentioned that he and Mary apprehended a few more white masks, but ultimately gained nothing. Mary's out of town – trying to see if perhaps they can move some people out of the District of Judas to the 4th Ward in the hopes of protecting them.

Mary's out of town – trying to see if perhaps they can move some people out of the District of Judas to the 4th Ward in the hopes of protecting them.
Rayen then mentioned that he's been poking around in the sewers and ruins beneath the District of Judas... and he may have seen The Doctor. The ruins are unfamiliar to him and old; he's used to the 4th Ward. Rayen happened to fall through a weak point and, when the rubble had cleared, he saw four white masks, two victims, and one man in a bird mask down at the end of the tunnel he fell into. At a distance, it was hard to discern much, but they very much noticed him as much as he noticed them, but he chose to pursue regardless even as they fired some magic at him.
They, however, quickly seemed more concerned with where they were going than those they had collected. One of the white masks dug some claws into one of the girls' legs – Rayen could see the blood spill even at a distance. She was practically dead when he got to her. The other one clearly began to struggle and scream after that, even as she was dragged away. They dragged her down another tunnel. Rayen heard signs of struggle, moving rubble, and then silence. By the time he caught up... he found her crushed corpse. What did you do with the bodies? Rayen said he buried them. The one that was crushed clearly was able to land some form of a blow. There was a bit of blood underneath her nails.
He also found something. It's far too nice to have been the victims – they were barely wearing rags. A broken bracelet... beaded... with three carved wooden pieces: a bird (vaguely resembling a bird mask), a hound or wolf, and a horse. Rani and Declan immediately recognized it as a traditional jewelry style worn in Oshiv'Ran. Is there any significance with the hounds to any of the clans? Well, Zver'Behepka is known to keep hounds... isn't that High Lord Ivan's clan? Thinking back, Declan recalls that Ilya – Ivan's daughter – wore a necklace of a similar style, but couldn't recall what was carved on the wooden pieces of her necklace.
Rayen met them in the graveyard where he buried the two bodies. The first to die had a large gash on her leg as Rayen said. Ghilani matched the wound to the bone claws of the white masks fought on Therarask. They didn't quite match Dr. Underbrink's own claws. The woman also appears to have been malnourished, wearing rags. The other woman is hard to recognize as her body has been crushed and disfigured. Ghilani acquired blood from both. Rayen then mentioned that he could take them to where he was in the ruins and sewers if they wished. If they need him, contact him through Leon. He then vanished.

Parvathian Has Decided to "Do Better"
Ghiani asks if anyone else would like to make a quick stop in Caliban? Rani says of course, if you want us there to support you then we will 100% support you. Declan says he's obviously going... to make sure Ghilani doesn't die again. Ah, responsible parents. Teleporting to Diviner Two's tower (cause Ghilani has her blood), the Lunar Queen no longer seems to be asleep atop of the tower. Diviner Two is gazing through her telescope when they arrive... and find Parvathian somewhat lurking off to the side. The Gold dragonborn seems thinner, though still defined, and perhaps a bit of a shell of his former self.I... saw the broadcast. The accusations that were made. I've had a lot of time to think... as I've been wandering around. I've been bound by the mold of my father for so long... and I've resolved to do something. There is a teleportation circle in the Gold Dragon Clan Estate that goes to the House of Jade. He mentioned that Ghilani was not far from it. Declan and Rani – who had been trying to not FULLY pay attention – were now very much paying attention. Have YOU used it? No, but my father did.
If you have someone you trust, they can sneak into my estate and I will tell them how to access it. Though it must be discrete, I cannot risk harming my daughter's reputation. Who DO we trust to do that? Should we go ourselves? Or send Dr. Valdove? No, it's too much of a risk if she get's caught as daughter of a High Lord and all. Cali? No, she's on that mission with the Grand Admiral. You know... we COULD send a VERY talented boy scout who can tie really good knots??? Though Ghilani isn't sure that Ismera would want to come here.
Parvathian also mentioned that he has a suggestion and that they may not like it. You may have a feud with Tetsuya, but he may be a better ally than enemy. He is in a unique position... and may be poised to provide aid. The Dragon Clans do not want outside interference, which you have essentially dangled over them with your accusations. Either Tesuya knows who is in charge and may take a chance to knock another Clan down a peg (power matters to him after all) or... he's in charge. Parvathian offered to take the risk in going to speak with him on their behalf.
Some debate is had, but this... this is good. The group had felt guilty leaving Caliban without any information on the House of Jade. Declan then asked Parvathian: is this just a suicide mission for you? Tetsuya COULD kill you. Parvathian shrugs. My life hasn't really amounted to much as of late – I spent all of it FOR the Gold Dragon Clan. I don't have that now. Declan says, hey... I was kind of in your shoes not too long ago. Chain yourself to something. Aye, and maybe that chain drags me to the bottom of the ocean. It doesn't HAVE to though. Ghilani stepped in and mentioned that Declan should respect people's decisions.
Ghilani then asked is that... all? You heard the broadcast... all of it, right? Parvathian was surprised. You met me when I was quite a mess. I was not acting my age nor my statue and for that I apologize. Ghilani said hey, we're all fools sometimes. That is something Parvathian is working to grap. Ghilani said he'd like to see Parvathian being a fool – the real you. I saw a brief glimpse of it and wouldn't mind seeing it again... pinky promise? Parvathian agreed. So don't die okay? Parvathian could say the same. And if you feel like testing those knot-tying skills you learned... Parvathian's down. Pulling out the rose, a petal takes a golden hue: romantic love tinged with fear and regret.
The group returns to Eredet. Ghilani asks if it's okay to like two people. How should he ask Ismera to help? Both Declan and Rani assured Ghilani it's fine so long as he's open and honest. Would you like to talk to Thera about it? Ghilani settles on no.
In the morning, Rani told the group that her father – even though he didn't recognize her – seemed interested in a story. So, she plans on telling him their story... in 25 word increments. And when she's caught up with that story... she'll deal with it all then.

The Sewers and Ruins Beneath Eredet
General Notes on the Sewers: Ruins of the city of old run underneath the "modern" city of Eredet. In most of the Districts, these old ruins have been co-opted and refurbished to support the sewer systems of that district. While they are connected, they are not so intertwined such that a blockage in one distract would compromise the sewage of another district.- Each District's sewer system is generally "wedge" shaped from the city outskirts to the Tower Citadel
- Sewer's are generally arranged around a "central" waste tunnel
- The Tower Citadel is on it's own sewer system that doesn't appear to be accessible via the other District
- The "newest" record of the District of Judas is ~1,000 years old - no one seems to have really been interested in mapping it or maintaining it
- Most of the districts haven't seen much change in the past few centuries, with the exception of small refurbishments or maintenance
Ghilani's Apology Letter
Greetings, I want to issue a formal apology to the royal genasi families as a whole. The texts I managed to get a hold of discussed the use of blood in paint to achieve an enhanced effect. Unfortunately, these were the only texts I had gotten at the time, and soon after was introduced to the knowledge of the university there at Lark'Hal. At that time, I learned more about the practice utilizing blood in paint and its discontinued use, but unfortunately was too late to discuss this with Cahareth, thus resulting in the broadcast that was aired. I would very much like to learn more about the current practices of Muse Paint production. If they are not enhanced by magical substances, they must truly be of such great quality, and I would like to at least get a better understanding of their manufacture, or at least what little you are able to disclose. I was able to see so little of the city's wonders during my brief stay. Let this be a lesson in the importance of cross-referencing information, citing well-trusted sources, peer-reviewing ideas, and generally following the scientific-arcane method. Best, Ghilani

Another Journal Entry
Long have I dreaded this day. Knowing it was inevitable and that it approached – even without prophetic visions – did nothing to ease the sickening feeling in my gut. Yes, I have delighted in our talks of history and what I imagine lies beyond that shimmering Barrier that fascinates him so. Yes, I have found that our conversations are easier and that I appreciate the new light I see him in. If I have misled him, it was not my intent. I have only endeavored to be honest and transparent in this whole messy, goat-cart wreck of an affair. Judas asked me to marry him. I refused. Does he truly love me and desire me for his wife, although I will perish long before him? Or did he ask out of social or religious obligations? For the sake of tradition? For the sake of his image? Judas bares everything with grace. I envy him for I had not taken but two steps from him when I felt the cool, jagged barbs of anxiety sink into my flesh and claw their way into my mind. Yes, it would have been the proper path to accept his proposal – as my handmaidens have already reminded me on every occasion they can. It is not too late to change your mind, they say. He is a god, it's intimidating, they say. Surely, he will understand. He loves you, they say. Yes, marriages have been struck with one-sided feelings, without any for that matter. Love will blossom with time... I must permit it to. Yet I have given it all the permission. Am I not predisposed to love him? Am I not his Beloved? Did I not cross this continent for this day? For this proposal? For this future? Still, it does not feel right. I cannot say why. I am haunted by this sense. I am haunted by my lack of visions. I am haunted by one vision. I am haunted by the figure I danced with... I see the figure every night now. For I know this much: It was not Soyolmaa's wedding I saw. And it was not Judas I danced with.Dysis Judas
