The Ceremonial Hunting Grounds

Located in the chasm only a short fly from Sun’s First Grace are the Ceremonial Hunting Grounds. This sacred, holy space, is where all young Elians earn their first braid. It is where Elis is believed to have hunted during the first Day to occur on Dremora. It is a space where the birds of prey – symbols of Elis herself – nest and raise their young. To the Elian people, this space is almost as sacred as the actual Temple of Elis itself.

The Ceremonial Hunting Lodge

Partially embedded and partially suspended from the slope of a nearby mountain is a relatively large cluster of connected pods with various perches emerging from a myriad of openings. The structure is built primarily of wood and painted primarily blue and white with embellishments in yellow and orange. Thick, heavy tapestries hang in the doorway depicting an aarakocra woman with a bow and arrow accompanied by swarms of various birds of prey. Inside, this cluster of pods appears to be a relatively normal hunting lodge, with additional features. One of the best bowyers of the Elian people resides here, producing some of the finest bows across Dremora. Three fletchers spend much of their time producing copious amounts of arrows for the Elian people, primarily the esteemed hunters. There is also an archery range within – though smaller than most trained hunters require to practice.

The rooms here are primarily occupied by those who are staying temporarily either to train amidst some of the more experienced members of Elian society or who are preparing to earn their first braid. For true Elians, once the first braid is received, a period of meditation and self-reflection is also highly encouraged. While not mandatory, there is almost no Elian who chooses not to participate. One might find a bunch of young Elians meditating alongside some older members of the community.

History & Lore

While The Temple of Elis is often considered the place where the sun’s rays first grace the continent of Dremora every day, it is the area around the Ceremonial Hunting Grounds that is believed to be the location of Elis’ first hunt. Here, the Goddess of the Sun was joined by the various birds of prey that call the Anwar-Dai home. She bestowed upon the first of her people the meat, hide, and other materials from her first kill. Some claim it was a Szorm’Szor, while others say it was a mythical beast that no longer exists: the Sun Sibál… a giant, flying whale.
