Basic Information
Anatomy
Ursinoids are furred humanoids characterized by a bulky physique and pronounced head. They are known for their physical stubbornness, with the toughest skin amongst furred humanoids, and a disturbing ability to sustain survive severe wounds, partially due to a secondary layer of fat beneath their skin that seals most wounds much quicker than skin.
Ursinoids are one of the largest bipedal humanoids, reaching up to eight and a half feet tall, though typically closer to eight feet, and the largest by pure mass. They are additionally the most muscular humanoid race, though they are otherwise physically unremarkable.
The primary morphological characteristics of Ursinoid is the colour of their fur, which varies in shades of black, brown, and white. Male Ursinoids have broader heads and tend to be slightly smaller, while female Ursinoids are slightly larger with more angular heads.
Genetics and Reproduction
Ursinoids reproduce sexually, with a male and female partner. Once the female is fertilized, she will gestate for a year and three months before giving live birth. The cub is able to feed themselves shortly after birth, but relies on its parent to hunt down larger prey and shelter it from predators, only gaining independence after passing ten years.
Ecology and Habitats
Ursinoids are well-suited to any temperature, but their lack of specialization in senses or movement typically means they are never truly at home. However, Ursinoids love large settlements, and are the main driving forces behind the larger cities in Drisenheim.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Ursinoids are mesocarnivores, typically ingesting a diet of one part meat to one part plants. However, even for their prodigious size, Ursinoids consume a massive amount of food, nearly 20 pounds a day, so most Ursinoids will stock up large amounts of food, even when living near sources of food.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Ursinoid social structures are characterized by very strong conservative tendency and little internal social progress, but due to the relative rarity of the species, most Ursinoids live intertwined with other humanoids. Typically, an Ursinoid will find an area early in life, and live in that area their entire lives, learning of the surrounding people, and resistant to change. They have earned a reputation as guardians of other species, as an angered Ursinoid is a terrifying sight that does not easily forgive.
Average Intelligence
Ursinoids are mentally dull for humanoids, with a strong conservative streak leading to little innovation. However, their natural predilection for toughness and stubbornness has led to a certain amount of expertise at jury rigging existing technology to their purposes.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Ursinoid have the typical sensor suite of humanoids, with no particularly outstanding sense.
