Palace life for a child is a cage - even if a gilded one. Helia spent much of her younger years sneaking away from Lexori's obligations in the boring pagentry of court to spy upon, and later delve into, the ruins of Old Dalvath. The visions in the smoke and fire showed her lives, crowns, and bloodshed past - riddles all. A child's curiousity and desire to understand meant asking all the wrong questions of all the wrong people. She soon learned to keep quiet about her visions, though they never left her - a whisper in the pop-and-crackle at the hearth, a tiny silhoutte in the flame's candle. Forever and always dancing for attention in the periphery, begging to be seen and understood. She kept them close lest they serve as a one-way ticket to be sent far away. She would tread with more caution and more secrecy, as her formal studies shifted sharply towards work with the royal house's mages. She kept herself quiet when it was necessary, and aimed simply not to get caught when it wasn't. And for her efforts in the long game, she was rewareded a place in the Exalted Queen's court.But, here the cage closed in around her. Here she could feel the Exalted Queen's eye - like a knifetip looking for any excuse to fell the cut. Why? Why this dance on the knife's edge? Be perfect, but not memorable.
