An-Galdigir - God-Kings of Akhadi

WIP
This article is incomplete and will receive the love and care it needs when more details are known.

Arishta and her three siblings stood sleepy in Babe-Lu-Nin's throne room. About an hour ago they had been woken up by their uncle Nabu-Adan and dragged from their beds by guards. Where were her parents and why was her uncle sitting on the throne with the Isignia of the Elemental Wisdom of Fire? The archvizier stood next to the king and tapped the ground with his ceremonial staff:

"Kneel down! Homage Nabu-Adan VI. - An-Galdigir-ak-Akhadi - Khus-Mahad-An-Nefdigir!"

At 15 years old, Arishta was not only the eldest, but also the most astute and in every way the most mature of the siblings. Despite a premonition, she held back tears that her uncle was not allowed to see. Tears were unworthy of a god-king and his children and a sign of weakness. Her siblings looked up at her and with her eyes she signaled them to follow the vizier's instructions. They knelt down and blessed their uncle with the hand gesture and the holy words of fire. Then they touched their foreheads to the ground and waited with bowed heads until they were allowed to rise again.

After all the years in which Nabu-Adan was hardly noticed by the children and often humiliated by his brother Naram X, he wanted to savor the situation. He let his three nieces and nephew kneeling wait until the first rays of sunlight shone through the stained glass windows and colored the throne room a strong red.

Origin

Originally, people of Idaka did not believe in the four primordial gods like the Elaqitanians of the remaining four continents. Due to their very early advanced technological developments and enlightened understanding of physics, chemistry and biology in the age of enlightenment of the 6th to 3rd millennium BEC, there was never the need for a religion.   It was only through the construction of the mirror gates around 3,432 BEC and the easier travel to the remaining continents that the Idacians came into contact with magic and the already established Elaqism. Especially the people who belonged to the Homo Elaqitanii from the end of the 3rd millennium BEC and who had survived the flood catastrophe of the Mirror Rebels found more and more comfort in the thought that the world was created by the primordial gods.   Over time, they adopted elements of Elaqism and added their own, resulting in the Mahad-An-Nefdigir - Church/Faith of the Four Gods. In the beginning, the remaining princes also acted as chief priests and thus became intermediaries between the Homo Elaqitanii of Idaka and the gods. In the coming years, this led to the belief that the country's leaders were chosen by one of the primal gods and ruled the country in his place. Enlil I of the House of Numunia was the first king of Akhadi who styled himself An-Galdigir in 2,526 BEC. Since then, the title has been worn by all kings, regardless of gender.

Wow.

Ah, that's why this felt familiar - I remember that brainstorming session. This is setting the scene quite nicely. I also have to add that I really like your addition of "At a glance" - its a great and really fitting touch for your articles.

Sit down, my friend, and let me tell you of Aran'sha . A world where the sands shift and the stars sing, where the wind carries secrets and the twin moons keep silent vigil over it all.

Thank you for your kind words. The overviews are inspired by the entries that are usually on the left side of the article, which I always found a bit annoying or didn't contain what I wanted to say. I'm very happy if everyone likes these small, short fields with the most important, brief information.

The world is not enough.

The snippet made me sad. It's interesting, that the culture went from technological without needing a religion to finding comfort in the idea of gods.

Sep 3, 2024 17:47

Would you say it's rather unbelievable?

I think it's very believable. We see the rise and fall of both tech and religion throughout history, and the causes usually end up harming many, many people.

Sep 4, 2024 15:39

Phew, that calms me down. When I was writing it, I had to think a little about ancient cultures and what would happen if, on the one hand, many technological achievements were lost in the flood and, on the other hand, stories about the old gods of the other four continents found their way to Idaka, similar to the fall of Greece and Rome and the rise of Christianity after the turmoil of the migration of peoples that led Europe away from ancient knowledge into the faith-filled Middle Ages.
