Garuda

Garuda, are a subspecies of Avan. Unlike their Kenku cousins they retain their ability to fly but have similar more bird like appearances like them. As opposed to their Harpy cousins, but unlike the Harpies the Garuda actually don’t have separate wings. Rather the Garuda’s arms are a pair of ambidextrous wings that end in a set of feathered digest like protrusions that they are able to manipulate mush likE actual fingers. Allowing them to use their wings both as a means of flight but as a hands for daily tasks.
Playing a Garuda with this in and can actually make for some interesting takes as they are unable to use their “hands” while in flight. But it dose mean that many Garuda have found interesting ways of working items while in flight. Heavy weapons and other two handed weapons can create som truly unique imagery while swords and shields may not be favored by them. Not to mention that a Garuda thief may find their large feather like fingers both a hindrance or source of inspiration (imagine deftly pinching a lock or a persons pocket with giant feather fingers and never getting caught).
Most Garuda call Chon and Baleis home with life among the Elves and Familias a slight change of pace and almost homely. Many find work as couriers and messengers in noble court or guards. Because of their more bird like appearance people are less likely to take notice of them, as if one is not looking they seem just like a large bird. Because they are mostly found in Cohn and Baleis they are also among the most sought after among the Djinn and other people that keep slaves on the material plane
If you are thinking of playing a Garuda in this setting we just ask that you consider were your game is happening and make your Garuda be something that make sense for the area. If you are not in Cohn or Baleis why have you left or are you one of the rare Garuda that has lived their entire life in the region, if so what is your families story.

Basic Information

Biological Cycle

Most Garuda will actual live for up to a century if they live a "peaceful" life. Reaching full maturity around the age 13 or 14 they start to age at a reduced rate of 3:1 (every 3 human years is one Garuda year) about 1-3 years after that. For this reason many Garuda are considered adults around the age of 15-16.
