Limrod (Lhim-Rhod)
Limrods are huge 9-10 foot tall, elephant-like creatures that often wander together in small camps called ‘cramps,’ stopping here and there to refresh their supplies or spend a night at a settlement. Limrods are, for the most part, tender and kind. They admire the plants and flowers with a quiet, gentle observation that ambitious humans lack. They are peaceful, indeed, but they are no weaklings. Imagine the largest, strongest man in the world, then imagine him about two feet taller, with the knotted rolling muscles and ferocity of a wild animal, the great head and horns of a large-eared elephant, and the intelligence of a human. All of this, bound up into one terrifying mass of power and strength. Limrods are not to be messed with, but often make wonderful companions and loving, loyal friends in need.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Limrods are built upright, with large ears, wide shoulders, skinny but strong and very long limbs, and eliphant-like feet. They have two arms with large, three-fingered hands. Their head is set on a strong neck, often times as thick as their head, sail-like ears, a trunk and small eyes.
Color: grey or very light brown
Weight: 300-450 pounds
Height: 8-10 feet
Eye Color: Green, grey, light blue and orange
Growth Rate & Stages
Limrods are born with a short trunk, larger eyes and shorter, stumpier limbs, as well as having no tusks. A new-born limrod will usually be between 2 and 2.5 feet tall, weighing around 23 pounds. They will then grow for an average of 13 years until they are fully grown. After this however they can live for up to 80 years before they begin to show serious signs of age. During this time they will have grown out their limbs, trunk and males will have their tusks fully grown to a max length of 2.3 feet. Once Limrods are around 90 years old they begin to lose muscle, body-fat and grow less active.
Male and Female Differences: Males have much longer tusks and weaker legs, as well as smaller eyes.
Ecology and Habitats
Limrods prefer more lush, wild areas. They have a natural love of nature, possibly due to their ancient ancestor's homes, and there is no limrods home that will be found without a plant or two in sight.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Limrods eat an assortment of leaves, fruits, vegetables and roots, as well as many spices and herbs. They do not have a specific diet, but do not eat meat. They are famous for making many of the best drinks and spices.
Biological Cycle
Limrods tend to move a lot, due to their way of life, and often have a cycle that moves with the seasons. They often move to lower, warmer regions but oftentimes just find a temporary home in a town for the winter.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Limrods are equipped with the usual senses, Sight, Hearing, Touch, Smell and Taste. However, they are not quite as far-seeing as men, and have much better hearing and especially smell.
Civilization and Culture
Average Technological Level
Most limrods' level of technology is in agrarian or nomadic types. They have very long and complicated recipes, and are masters at farming. One universally common item is the The Palmer.
History
The limrods originally lived on Madoogid, the huge strip of land to the East of Grood. Little is known of their life on Madoogid, but some old ruins have been found there. They eventually left their ancient home, sailing for the first time across the small gap of sea separating them from Earck. They were not excepted by the old Dwarves who lived there, and many long and bloody battles ensued. The dwarves were eventually beaten back, and driven south, out of Grood. There the limrods began to make their home, but then were driven south again with the first winter because of the cold and lack of food. They eventually settled in the Wilds, and roam throughout these lands in search of food, water and stopping at various settlements.
Because of the ancient war between Limrods and the Dwarves, there is a slight mistrust between these two races.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Limrods and Dwarves do not get along. Limrods view the dwarves as small creatures with a stubborn, greedy, unthoughtful and selfish mind. They have a mistrust of dwarves, and are always on the lookout for danger when they are around.
Limrods and Shadow Elves interact very seldom. They do not understand one another, nor do they meddle in each other's affairs. Limrods view Shadow elves as mysterious, intelligent and outside of their business.
