Bradleburg

An unassuming new colony in the 'uncivilized' lands of the Jianden subcontinent in southern Bellome. Plagued by threats from all sides, the small town slowly grows, reaching into the area's lost history.

Demographics

Population

Bradleburg as a formal colony of Mittivul, is made up of mostly Sea Dwarf settlers brought in during the initial founding. Accompanying them to assist the workforce were a number of Delicartions, most of them required to go due to preexisting contracts and work arrangements with either Leischmitt or Klippe companies, both of which were financing the trip. Although dominated by Mittivan settlers in these conditions, the population of Bradleburg also holds a number of folk from Butheaux and willing settlers from Mittival (not under contract), from a variety of races, although seeing the odd human or halfling is not an altogether common occurrence.

Wealth

The majority of Bradleburg's people are the employed working class that came directly from Mittivul, which function under largely unchanged rules. Below them is a small amount of folk that were not contracted workers, although most have also signed on to work for one of the two main companies. A slim middle class consisting of contracted business or practice owners, free workers, and lesser aristocrats function as the town's non-physical infrastructure, while the fairly small upperclass of wealthy dwarves keep to themselves.

Religion

Mitiivan dwarves are not a particularly faithful people, but most Dwarves are followers of the Morndinsammen (The Dwarven Pantheon), although their favored members of the Zodiac are Pisces, Virgo, and Aries.

Government

Bradleburg is run entirely by its founder, Lord Matthias Bradley of The Bradlewen clan of Mittivul. All decisions are made by him, as he is also the commander of the town's Guard. Bradley collects no taxes, relying on his own personal retinue to provide for him, and instead allows the representatives of the Klippe Construction company and the Leischmitt agricultural company to join his colony and run the general infrastructure and help feed the people. The majority of the town's population work for one of the two companies, which pays them generally enough to get by. Most practical questions regarding the town are answered by these two companies, with any serious plan of action for either requiring the approval of Bradley. Peace is generally kept by the Bradleburg Guard, which is run by Bradley's personal Guard, although crime is generally rare within the town, as most of populace is busy surviving day to day or part of the Guard themselves. There does exist a single jail house however, and it is a rare, but not unexpected site to see someone be sentenced and thrown in, only to see them working as free labor to pay off their sentence, which goes largely ignored by Bradley himself.

Defences

The town is in a precarious position having only been established for less than a year. The town's defenses rely almost entirely on the training and effectiveness of the Bradleburg Guard, a small force of both career and part-time defenders, as the town itself is only naturally defended only by the sea and a wooden palisade wall around the town proper. The Guard itself is split into Bradley's personal guards and the Town guard, which when combined number at about 50 official members, although only around 25-30 are on duty at a given time. Of those 50 guards , only about 15 are members of Bradley's Guard. However, Bradley's Manor itself has another, sturdier stone wall around it, along with its solid construction, which allows it to function as the town's best fortification.

Industry & Trade

Bradleburg is not a particularly wealthy or important colony, as Bradley only maintains his own two ships, one of which being a simple Caravel used for absolutely necessary trade runs. The town is mostly self reliant, having brought a great deal of supplies with Bradley's initial three ships. The majority of Bradleburg's people are professional farmers or fishermen under the employ of the Leischmitt Company, or construction workers, miners, or loggers under the employ of the Klippe Company. The majority of the population tends to be focused on agricultural pursuits, especially as the colony was first established, but as time has gone on, many people began to sign on with the Klippe company, building up the town as the quarries were established. Artisans and tradespeople are still few and far between, with the town busy on establishing itself up first. Besides the necessities in professions such as blacksmith or tanner, the town's economy is mostly focused on the essentials, although members of both classes fight to gain ownership of their own business. The noble class, surprisingly is also involved in the physical labor of the working class, at least nominally. The majority either pay the companies directly to avoid going to work, but it is not uncommon to see a noble dwarf working in the quarry themselves, although most would much prefer to Brandenburg relies on trading mostly stone and processed wood with nearby orcs trading for any remaining food, skins, and even water that they might need. Other needs or luxuries the town needs are gathered by the occasional trader stopping by, although this rare considering the towns remoteness. The majority of the preexisting parts of the settlement were brought there in the initial settling.

Infrastructure

Bradleburg is about 5 square miles, with the majority of that being the various farms located outside of Bradleburg's new wooden palisade walls. The town is split into four main sections, being the few square miles outside the town proper that is plowed and set by farmers, Bradleys manor inside it's own set of walls, the town proper which is split into East and West, and the Docks. There are only two main roads for the small town, the larger running east to west, and the smaller running north to South. The larger cuts through the towns entirety, from the sturdy docks, and ending at the town square, which leads up to Bradley's Manor to the East. The road passes through the poorer west and richer east side of the town proper, with the majority of the practical shops, such as the Blacksmith, the Tanner, and the like being on the West side of town. The smaller road cuts exclusively through the rich East side of town, and leads to the two prominent town gates, with the other two gates on the West side being much less impressive. Directly south of town lie the main woodcutter's camp while in the North lie a sizable quarry and the town's windmills.

Guilds and Factions

The town is mostly split up into the following groups:
Bradley's Personal Retinue

Bradley himself does not deal extensively with the rest of the colony, instead following his own goals in his manor. He commands a small service of personnel to run his home, and has his personal defense detail run the Bradleburg Guard. The general citizens have varying levels of loyalty, but all respect him.

Klippe Construction

A major construction company in Mittivul, Bradley has allowed a few representatives to maintain the infrastructure of his colony for a price. Having financed and thus owning the buildings themselves, they seek simply to gain profit and potentially seek new resources that could be desirable on the market. They are already eyeing the open source of Kayntan pine wood and an 'unclaimed' source of good stone. They are run mostly by a team of 5 sea dwarves in Bradleburg, of which Wolfgang Seamason is a particularly infamous member, known for his greed and loan shark tendencies.

The Leischmitt Company A big name corporation from Mittivul that provides for and pays the wages of most of Bradleburg's farmers and fishermen. They are responsible for providing the tools necessary for food production, and have a small number of people living within the colony that ensure the town functions. Their operatives are also responsible for giving the food producer's access to some simple magic in exchange for coin with spells like mold earth, create water, and create food being used to maintain a healthy amount of supplies. The Leischmitt Company's goals are a touch more mysterious, with the leadership in town under Veit Graffel keeping mostly to themselves.

Geography

Bradleburg is a coastal town, and is set into the Kayntan forest, enjoying a temperate, coniferous forest and generally arable land, and a few small hills,

Natural Resources

Bradleburg has easy access to lumber in Kayntan Pine, and a functional quarry providing workable stone, although it is only just beginning to do so. Its coastal location also gives it easy access to fish.

No useful ores have been discovered as of yet, and thus there are no nearby mins. However, the Klippe Construction Company is actively searching for iron and rumored tungsten mines in the area.
