El'yr (/El-ear/)
"He Who Laughs at Horrors Unseen"
Summary
El'yr is a hallucinating god, viewed both as tragic and as blessed. It is said that Maer, under the command of Nenzus, brought about his corruption - his visions. El'yr sees and hears things that no other can, and in response, he only laughs. Often associated with Cinakath, the two are perfect friends: El'yr always lost in his own mind, and Cinakath lost outside it. Yerev also often lends his ear, seeing sparks of genius within his ramblings. The Canon and the Way
Few differences exist between interpretations of El'yr between the Prime Canon and the Green Way. Anything interpretable that comes from his mouth is already deeply confusing, and neither doctrine has attached a strong definition to any of his words. Worship of El'yr might be considered odd amongst practitioners of the Prime Canon and Green Way alike, though it's not nearly as indicative of danger or insanity as worship of Cinakath. It's a good conversation starter, but that's it; few want to go too far into the depths of El'yr's philosophy.Symbology
Perhaps appropriately, El'yr has no official symbols, and is never described as a physical entity. Most of his followers view such objects as pointless anyways; only that which is within is of serious matter. A symbol is real, but reality is not, so rejoice, for El'yr demands nothing, and gives your mind all! Popularly, though, especially faithful individuals wear a pin within their hair or clothes that resembles the colorful wings of a butterfly, meant to represent their free spirit. This pin is the closest to a symbol that El'yr has, and it may function as the holy symbol of a Cleric if no other object will do.Rites and Worship
Outside of the unsound, El'yr is the patron of all absurdists; actors, gravediggers, and charlatans all find comfort in his ways, for they know that life is meaningless beyond what you make of it. They know not what El'yr sees, but they share in his laughter, content with the incoherence. These followers are not mere hedonists of Cinakath - they do not act only for their own pleasure at others' expense - but they recognize that there is not much else than the pleasure you invent. Perhaps as might be expected, El'yr has no holy sites or centers of worship, and most praise him through personal reflection without any sort of larger congregation. Clerics of El'yr often come from the ranks of those who give last and funerary rites. His philosophy provides such people the calm of mind to keep on going with their job. Some necromancers also worship El'yr, viewing undeath as a means of lifting worldly burdens from the living - if only they could get past their prejudices towards it. Finally, El'yr is famous amongst actors and surrealist artists, though few can be claimed to be so devout as to be considered Clerics. More archaically, mathematicians and empiricists sometimes hang on to El'yr as a deity of reason, which he is alleged to have been prior to his corruption far before the Age of Ascension. Such people often wear his butterfly symbol, taking it to represent the concept of free thought.Holy Text: The Sacred Geometry (alleged)

⊕ If you feel you have done wrong, think about why, and how you might make amends with those you have caused harm. | ⊝ Do not disparage the mentally ill - to do so is to insult El'yr himself. ⊝ Do not expect from the deities what you can do of your own will and volition. |

⊜ Reflect. If you feel the tug of doubt or regret, listen to it. It is through this that El'yr speaks. Heed his words, evaluate them critically, and live the best life you can. |
