Cinakath (/Si-nuh-kath/)

"He Who Sleeps With All"

Summary

Cinakath is a mad god, obsessed with lust and ecstasy. His followers are a combination of deviants and addicts on one hand and curious nobles on the other. Most can find some connection to Cinakath at some point their lives, whether he serves to warn of a life which should not be lived or a symbol of unity for those who view life as too short to waste on the details of morality.   Most, however, are never fully undisturbed by Cinakath's antics. If they were, he would have surely failed, for Cinakath views each display of tolerance as a challenge to act out with greater depravity. It is said that the Mad-God responded to Thear’s suggestions of moderation with a quest to breed with every animal upon the Material Plane, a challenge from which arose the existence of Idolax.

The Canon and the Way

Though there aren't any strong doctrinal differences around what Cinakath represents, there are significant points of disagreement around its cultural context. Among followers of the Prime Canon, Cinakath is a prime example for what the nature of Eashavar's races might be absent of civil law: a pure self-centered hedonism, without care in the world for any other. In rural areas, some even believe that the Fey are offspring of Cinakath - a racial stereotype that is bolstered by the Canon's views. He is primarily regarded as one who should generally be opposed, though there are times where all feel the need to diverge from the constraints of social norms and indulge in his ways.   Those who follow the Green Way take fault with this premise. Fey have lived for ages without adherence to any law or structure, after all, and their behavior has not degenerated to Cinakath's place. Instead, most who follow the Green Way view Cinakath as one who simply enjoys the pleasure of contrarianism. Many can even relate to his opposition of silly social norms - though, of course, not to his extreme extent. Cinakath has many who admire and show him respect within the Green Way, though its the very nature of this doctrine that the deities are teachers to learn from, and his behavior should only be interpreted in its context (and in moderation).

Symbology

Traditionally, Cinakath is viewed as a naked man, almost satyr-like in appearance, with massive deer antlers sprouting from his head and a deathly slim form. He always carries with him a spear in one hand (a symbol of his hunt for animals with which to breed), and a pouch in the other, in which he collects the heads of those he’s mated with so as to prevent the birth of another Idolax. Traditionally, his most acceptable symbol is thus a spear whose tip is covered by a bag of leather, but other phallic and yonic objects are used to represent him as well. The latter are actually more common, though always on the down-low, as the Mad-God would certainly appreciate innuendo, and the spear-and-pouch implies a far-too-comfortable devotion to his deviancy.

Rites and Worship

Cinakath can loosely be interpreted to have two kinds of followers: those who respect him, and those who embrace him. The former category represents his intellectual bastion; most Clerics and public figures who praise him fall into this category. The holy sites of Cinakath's followers are referred to as houses, typically in hushed tones which hint at their status apart from a real home. Houses often double as brothels, drug dens, and other centers of pleasure - but they always carry a legal veneer (or at least pretend to).   On the other side, there are Cinakath's worshippers - those who embrace him. Most of these people are merely those who have fallen for pleasure and revelry and attribute its gifts to the Mad-God. Many end up falling into the ranks of cults and darker organizations as they spiral, seeking greater pleasure. Any place where such worshippers meet - typically dark basements and abandoned houses - is typically called an orgy, though the events which occur need not include sex. At orgies, worshippers congregate and plot both pleasure and desecration, hoping to earn the Mad-God's favor.   Clerics of Cinakath, in either category, display their primal connection to the Mad-God in various ways. Many regularly serve at or attend brothels, regulaly use drugs, or abuse any other particular vice that they may have. As a whole, Clerics of Cinakath tend to dislike clothes, though laws tend to get in the way of that. Even despite this general tendency towards nudity, many wear a headdress that involves the placement of horns upon the head with adornments of jewelry and body paint.
