Session 22: Excavating the Warehouse

General Summary

Defeating the Order of the Emerald Claw

  • The battle commenced once again, with Grundhelm bellowing at Viribus as they retreated in opposite directions. The yellow cloud began to affect almost everyone in the party, save for Bell, Tell, and Thanos. Each member of the Crew retreated as far from it as they could, with only Dooturr and Thanos moving to the left side of the catwalk, in the direction of Grundhelm and his minions.
  • The main party began fighting off agents and the undead creatures that were being created by the assembly line, while Dooturr and Thanos began to duel Grundhelm and his minions. Agents and undead began to fall, while one of the casters by the entrypoint of the assembly line was launching devastating spells at the party.
  • Verin managed to teleport to a strategic, but exposed, vantage point on top of one of the metallic towers. He encased a large portion of the individuals by the assembly line in a Web spell, trapping them for a majority of the fight.
  • Ashpin, Maleakos, Viribus, and N'nchyk were battling a spectral hand as more of the feral undead creatures piled onto the platform they were on. It was quite the struggle, with Maleakos running low on magical resources, but the divine energy of Ashpin's magic held the creatures at bay. Bell and Tell were launching arrow after arrow into the closest enemy they could see, contributing a great deal of support to the front line.
  • Meanwhile, Dooturr and Thanos were doing their best to hold their own, but were falling fast. Grundhelm held his blade to Dooturr's skull, saying that if he brought him Viribus, he would let him live. Dooturr was, of course, not interested, and chose to go out fighting, both him and Thanos falling unconscious, but Thanos eventually coming to and stabilizing Dooturr, calling for aid and protecting Dooturr's body as best he could.
  • Ashpin was using the ability of his telepathy to do what the man with the machine head had directed him to do - saying that Lady Illmarrow had commanded the agents' venerable deaths in the name of the Blood and Order - using his divine energy to make his telepathic words that much more persuasive. And he was overwhelmingly successful, as some of the agents began to impale their scimitars upon themselves, collapsing in gruesome piles of their own blood.
  • Verin was attempting to suppress the spellcasters as best he could, but she was holding steady for as long as she could, before casting some spell to disappear. The assembly line began to slow, and the undead creatures less numerous, as Viribus and N'nchyk focused their fire on some warforged that seemed to be operating some portion of the line. Tell, who had been caught in an unfortunate place, was tragically slain by one of the undead creatures.
  • Eventually, Grundhelm bellowed for Viribus, challenging him to a duel of strength on the bridge. Viribus said he would comply, as long as he would call off his dogs. Grundhelm agreed, if Viribus called off his.
  • And so, the party made way for the two to collide on the bridge. Grundhelm channeled some innate blood-fueled ability to freeze Viribus in place, and used some of Viribus' own magic against him to hex him. His blade was unerring in its accuracy, as it was almost drawn to the blood and wounds of the battle-bruised Viribus.
  • Viribus fought as best he could as the wounded Grundhelm snarled at the traitor before him. Viribus mocked him, saying that he was not strong to have defeated a child - and Viribus was no longer a child. Grundhelm merely responded with a laugh before knocking Viribus unconscious, and raising his blade above the chest of Viribus' body.
  • Ashpin managed to bring Viribus back just long enough to spit in the face of Grundhelm, as the reddish energy of his magic flowed around him in a rage, and as his irises flashed briefly scarlet, his red-and-black blade whirled through the air, finally decapitating Grundhelm. The blood spatter brought Viribus back down once again, collapsing next to the corpse of the enemy he fought so hard to destroy.

Exploring the Factory

  • The rest of the undead minions were slain with ease, and the assembly line was devoid of any new corpses. Viribus claimed the head of his fallen enemy, and N'nchyk had Bell collect the body. As Maleakos finally managed to grab a smoke, the rest of the factory and bodies of the agents were explored.
  • The warforged at the console surrendered, saying they were simply hired mercenaries, and had no affiliation with the Emerald Claw. The mercy of Ashpin allowed them to leave unharmed.
  • A number of strange items were found throughout, involving a deed to a house in Lower Northedge, a romance novel, spare gold and silver, and a holy symbol of the Sovereign Host. Eventually, the exhausted party carefully tread their way through the elevator to the control center, where the tablet was supposedly located.
  • They discovered three bodies, strung upside down with their necks slashed and their blood flowing onto a console in which the coral tablet was located. On a desk next to the main console were strange stone gloves and a metal briefcase designed to hold the coral tablet. N'nchyk reached to grab the tablet with his bare hands, but Viribus stopped him, and used the stone gloves to transport it instead.
  • In a lounge area near the control center, there were a number of items discovered. There were several vials of blood, with one unique one lying on its side with a small slip of paper reading, "my gift to you". Maleakos identified it as a Bloodwell Vial, which greatly enables the power of those with innate spellcasting abilities.
  • Also in the lounge area was a book of curses against something called the Undying Court, and a dagger with a hooked blade and a fanglike offshoot that was stained red.
  • The party departed the factory, returning to the warehouse above, where three of the skeleton corpses were missing. They formed a plan to meet at the Last Raven Pub to speak with the buyer, and to get some rest in the meantime.
  • N'nchyk returned to his home in Lower Dura, and then traveled back to the Loft. Viribus found an enchanter that was able to bind his focus to his new sword, and briefly returned to his mansion for a short rest. The rest of the Crypt Crew got their much-needed rest at the Loft.
