Session 37: Back on the Path

General Summary

Out-of-game Chat

  • A brief talk was had about the misery difficulties of the previous ses. It was boiled down to a potluck of things - unlucky strategic positioning, difference in goals, strong AOE spells, whatever...the group agreed to try and be more cohesive in the future, and the DM agreed to not fucking suck.

Leaving the Temple

  • The Crew faced off one final time with Beepblub, who had the unconscious Anzan propped up before him. Corpses of several monsters were littered around the coffin entrance; clearly, Anzan had been busy protecting it.
  • Through another stinky green cloud, Beepblub was put out of his misery. The Crew had a brief - and rather terse - conversation with Anzan, who thanked them for their sacrifice and bravery in cleansing the temple, assuring them the blessing of Arawai was with them.
  • While the party settled in to rest, they were visited by a projection of a group of figures cloaked in green and gold robes. They said their fallen ally, Verin of the noble line Medyrian, was a scion of the Undying Court of Haleth.
    • Verin was unique, and of unprecedented kin. He was meant to serve a great purpose in this world, and while it may not have been the one they imagined, he was important nonetheless.
    • He was beginning a journey that would lead to his spirit’s eternal preservation amongst his brethren. But, the figures said, time is the cruel adversary of all ambitions. His passage into Dolurrh was the mark of a journey unfinished.
  • The Undying Court values family above all else. As the Crew was Verin's surrogate family, the figures asked that they bury Verin in the rites of his ancestors. Only then could there be any hope that whatever fragments of his soul remained would become anchored to Irian, and that he may join his true family in Haleth.
  • The figures said that Dooturr's connection would tell him if anything did happen with Verin's soul. And, since Lumen was of divine blood, they asked that he might share the blood of Verin's vial into his own.
  • The figures faded away with a mantra echoing through the room: "Existence is a spiritual journey far longer than a single lifetime. One can only hope to learn what great wonders lie at its end."
  • As the party began to leave the temple, a celestial form began to form above the temple. It was a magnificent, horse-like creature, and it spoke in a beautiful language that only Lumen could understand.
    • The cleansing of the temple had caught the attention of Arawai, who sent a guardian, Carinae, to help protect it in the future.
    • Gesturing to Dooturr, the creature said that the powerful Relic of Life or Destruction has been recovered, and that it must be used wisely.
    • The trade route then temple lay near had been abandoned because of the temple, but the Crypt Crew had restored it once again.
    • Carinae offered a word of caution, as their return to life is a blemish on the natural order. And they have acted against the will of the Devourer, who may send his wrath against them.
    • Regardless, the Order of Fecundity will flourish once again because of their deeds. The monks of the new order will write stories and sing songs in their name.

A Fallen Friend

  • Everyone offered an object or memory in remembrance of Verin, burying him one final time.
  • Lumen, with N'nchyk's suspiciously expert help, injected the blood from Verin's vial into Lumen's veins.
  • As Philip and Ashpin concluded the rites directed by the Undying Court

Fresh Air at Last

  • Dooturr received a letter from his boss on his correspondence parchment, saying there were plans in the very early stages to create a united skeleton nation.
  • The party discussed the Relic of Life or Destruction that had been recovered from the temple, currently kept in Dooturr's possession.
  • Blocking the path ahead was a rotting and decapitated moose, with fungus growing on it that formed the word "N'nchyk", and directed him along a path that led to a clearing with a message spelled from the severed limbs of several creatures.
  • Maleakos looked different the next morning, as his mother had visited in the night, creating a pact between them in exchange for a portion of her power.
  • The next day, just as the party entered a clearing, an earth-shaking roar could be heard.
