Sharn Inquisitive: Issue #9614
DROAAMITE ATTACKS SPREADING EASTWARD
As the second year after the Treaty of Thronehold draws to a close, the weary threat of war looms from the west. The monstrous nation of Droaam, led by the foul Daughters of Sora Kell, first began their assaults almost a dozen years ago. Since the attacks have commenced, the Daughters have remained silent, never claiming credit for their egregious offenses. They insulted Breland by taking advantage of our limited resources due to almost a century of battle in the Last War. Such cowardly tactics quickly gained the fledgling nation a loathsome reputation. And reports just under a week ago have documented Droaamic forces penetrating as deep as Ringbriar, nearly 150 miles inwards of our nation's borders. A large portion of the settlement was simply devastated, and much of the population slaughtered with unspeakable brutality.
The nation's forces, made up primarily of trolls, ogres, undead, and other grotesque beasts, have gradually shifted inwards from the Droaam-Breland border into Breland itself. Brelish forces are intervening, but the current state of affairs is to contain, rather than assault. While these skirmishes are still quite far from reaching Sharn, experts estimate at the current rate, Droaamic forces could reach the city in mere months, causing an air of concern over the city. Already we have seen the city council take measures in Tavick's Landing to increase security and alertness, as the division is the main point of entrance into the city.
The longer the Droaamite aggression continues, the more Brelish lives are lost. Inquisitive insiders have reported pressure from King Boranel ir'Wynarn's cabinet to declare war on the odious nation to the west. A large part of the Brelish population tends to agree, especially those who have witnessed the carnage firsthand. An opposing voice, perhaps supported by King Boranel himself, proclaims caution. After all, the King was a large proponent of the Treaty of Thronehold, ending the greatest war the continent has ever seen. The voices of caution urge the rest of the population to consider the repercussions of declaring war so soon after the last has ended. The mystery of The Mourning is all holding many governmental agencies back from once again declaring war, so if our nation wages war with the heinous Droaam, other nations may use the proclamation as a scapegoat, and once again plunge our fragile continent into the pits of war.
