Session 15, "The Battle of the Boromar Ball", 28 Therendor 998 YK Report

General Summary

Welcome back to Eberron

When we last met, the Sharn Dragons had been invited to attend the annual Boromar Ball in Hareth's Folly. Fearing an assassination attempt against the family's patriarch, you did your best to blend into the crowd to determine if an assassin was among the guests. Socializing with the many councilors, Sharn Watch commanders, and nobles in attendance, you were unable to find a specific threat. It wasn't until you were seated for dinner that the plot began to come together, and you looked on in horror as Ilsa Boromar, your patron, convulsed and died at the table in front of you.   As the room began to erupt in terror you spotted the assassin, Katerin Muhra fleeing out the back of the mansion. You were hot on her heels, and were able to prevent Seraphina Boromar's clawfoot raptors from finishing their meal in time to revive the woman. As you were dragging her back to the house, you felt an explosion shake the mansion grounds and saw the assassin's bloody mouth gape into a grin...
The four members of the Sharn Watch (Silaena Cazal, Commander Lian Halamar, Commander Iyanna ir'Talan, and Lord Commander Iyan ir'Talan) secured the great hall of the Boromar Mansion and the nobles it contained while Saidan Boromar was escorted by his wife Mala Boromar d’Jorasco, their butler Castar Piddlewinks, and The Spider into the vault below the mansion for safe-keeping.   Hearing the howls and yips of the attacking gnolls, the Sharn Dragons forced their way into the mansion's grounds. There they witnessed the brutality of the Daask monsters as they butchered some of the party's attendees while they fled for safety. The party took their place between the innocents and the attacking gnolls. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder, they held back Cavallah's lieutenant Whyrwhyr and his pack.   The party held the line admirably, killing Whyrwhyr and his second-in-command, Keshta, though they nearly lost Therin in the process. Finally, after a brutal battle, the Sharn Dragons drove off the remnants of the gnoll war pack- only losing Therin's double-bladed scimitar in the process.   As they licked their wounds, the main assault force arrived. Harash approached the mansion, flanked by Delakash with Jakar and Mara. The gorgon immediately petrified Rare Mavari, but Glittergem Boondiggles was able to fire off a shot from "Hand to God" striking the creature in the cheek. Seeing that his shock troops did not penetrate into the main hall the way that he had hoped, he decided to take his captives from those assembled outside.   Therin, near death for the third time in as many minutes, felt a pulse of foreign energy rip through his mind as he fought the petrification effects of the gorgon's gaze. He briefly received a glimpse of the thoughts of the creatures assembled around him, and "Locutus" was silent. He and Gem were carried away, along with two other unknown guests of the party as Erisna looked on in horror, the statue of Rare Mavari growing cold behind her.

The Battle of the Boromar Ball

This event marks the beginning of what would later be known as "The Sharn Conflict". Criminals of the Daask cell in Sharn attacked the Boromar Mansion in Hareth's Folly in the middle of their annual ball. Almost forty citizens lost their lives in a brutal attack from gnolls, goblins, and a werewolf. Saidan Boromar, a prominent halfling "businessman", was poisoned just prior to the attack (footnotes in the annals of the history mention that his daughter Ilsa was fatally poisoned as well, but only the bards make mention of the wine taster).   The battle ended in a draw, with Daask losing many of their shock troopers in an attempt to break into the great hall, and the monsters butchering many of the guests that weren't priveledged enough to join the festivities inside the mansion. Harash, Cavallah's second-in-command took four hostages (including two of the Sharn Dragons).   This attack galvanized much of the city against Cavallah and her gang, leading to the Council of Sharn hiring the Sharn Dragons to help protect the city.
