Session 31: Welcome to the Great Crag
General Summary
The party work up to breakfast courtesy of Khajiit. Khajiit was also happy to buy and sell with the players before they parted ways (see Rewards section below).
After commerce had been completed, the party finished their journey, finally arriving at The Great Crag. The size and scope of the city and it's environs far exceeded any expectations. Indeed, it begs the question if the true size of The Great Crag was being downplayed on purpose...
After getting into the city proper the traffic becomes extremely treacherous. Tarryn Rowntree does his best, guided in part by Celosia Senho, but they are clearly in trouble. Fortunately a storm giant delivers a Crag functionary, Hamhock, to help guide them. The secret, Hamhock explains, is a kind of "predator or prey" game played at real time.
Upon arriving at the outer wall, Hamhock hands the party over to Inalo Flowerdream Thenalulane. She welcomes them to the city, especially Simon Twoorb, and explains she has arranged for the Edhellen to be flown by harpy the rest of the way. She has a large amount of paperwork for Simon to fill out, but once signatures are finished the party takes off. Most of them choose to ride inside, but Toox, Ice, and Simon ride on top. Ripper, too, rides on top, after shifting into a giant spider so he can provide an extra layer of protection. The flight goes smoothly, with Toox and Ripper making... let's call it friends... with the harpies providing transport.
The Edhellen is flown into an opening in the side of the Crag itself, over a landing platform and flight deck for the harpies, through a hidden tunnel, and into a giant cavern with a large vault. The harpies turn the party over to Begulk, a Sharn-trained bugbear. He is rude, and a tad pretentious, but he explains the party has been given an extremely secure vault to store the Edhellen in. The vault uses blood magic to seal and then open, to the point not even The Daughters of Sora Kell can access it. Simon and Tarryn lock the Edhellen in the vault, and the party are shown a path down a hallway and to the "elevators". This series of dark tubes powered by high speed wind will transport the party around the Crag. They use the symbols to find their way. Begulk guides the party through the elevators, though the experience is extremely hard on the constitution. A few members of the party vomit, and Toox almost loses control of her dragonmark. Only Celosia's quick thinking keeps the spell from going off.
Vomit and horrors aside, the party are finally shown to their rooms. They are set along the outer edge of the mountain, providing large windows with natural light. Ripper's friends and plants share a room, followed by Ripper, then Ice, Toox, Simon and Celosia, and on the end Simon is given a suite easily twice the size of the others, with a much more comfortable bed, chilled wine, and a sending stone should he have any other needs. Ripper immediately reforms the stone wall between his room and that of his friends, creating a simple door.
Begulk explains that Simon is to have a private tea with the Daughters later that day. After some discussion he agrees to set up an antechamber for any of the party who wish to accompany him (seeing as they are charged with his safety and security).
After Begulk leaves, Simon talks with the party. He is uncomfortable with the high regard and borderline celebrity status, but he is concerned about the goings on back in Sharn, and the conflict with the Dragonmarked houses. He suggests Toox, Ice, and Hult go out into the city and get a feel for life on the street, while Celosia and Ripper accompany him to the meeting with the Daughters. The party agrees. Then, at their encouragement, Simon uses the sending stone to request additional comforts for the party. He gets a new feather matters for Tarryn and Celosia, a slab of stone for Ripper, and several pitchers of chilled wine and glasses. A Medusa and a few Orog show up shortly with all of their requests. The medusa transforms several strips of material into a single smooth slab of stone for Ripper's bed, and then, with permission, reworks the door he created into something truly beautiful, complete with a locking mechanism.
They also bring plenty of wine.
