Session 36: Snatch and Grab
General Summary
The party develops and executes a thorough plan. Daric d'Velderan and Merrix d'Cannith take the information and suggestions brought by the party to handle identifying those with the Symbol. They form a team made up of members of House Cannith and House Tharashk. These teams sweep the entirety of Little Dura to the point Daric bets his life they have identified every mark in the area.
They find Dravor Ferren, Blesinde Bottomhill, Mary Tallman, Groodweabela Alebelt, and Fildaerae Krisxidor, and most disturbingly Yoren d'Ghallanda, the head of House Ghallanda. This news is deeply problematic, and raises tensions with The Daughters of Sora Kell. For the moment, however, Sora Katra is willing to let the party continue handling the investigation. Merrix and Daric suggest recruiting Yoren's daughter Chervian d'Ghallanda to their cause. She has been suspicious of her father for a while, and will be invaluable in navigating the crisis to follow taking down a House head. Finally, they confirm they have personally cleared all of the other House Heads.
With the targets identified the party and their allies move to quietly bring the suspects to a separate room just outside of Little Dura. There a medusa waits, alongside a representative from the Ghaash'kala and a few Znir Pact. The medusa petrifies the suspect, and they are taken away. All 6 suspects are captured without incident, though for Yoren Order goes herself to bring him to a 'private meeting'. There Hurda handles the petrification with Sora Katra looking on.
The suspects are brought to the Ghaash'kala examination room. Hurda returns each person to flesh. Merrix instantly casts Hold Person, and Nofhug Axeblade uses a blessed dagger to cut the symbol. The glow on the symbol goes out, though there is some residual electrical pulsing.
The party chooses to save Blesinde for last. They move the rest of the prisoners to a holding room with Ice guarding it. Blesinde is tied up while still being magically held, and then the spell is dropped. After an initial cry of pain, Blesinde refuses to speak. Celosia questions her at length, but is unable to get more than a few words out of her. Celosia is able to deduce Blesinde was operating out of a cell comprised of the rest of the prisoners, except Yoren. She was not the leader of the group, and didn't know who her cell leader reported to. She was surprised to discover Yoren had the symbol, though, and seems to think Yoren must have been the one ultimately in charge.
While the questioning goes on, Toox and Hult go back to Little Dura to retrieve Blesinde's chest. They bring the chest back to the interrogation room and begin to empty it in front of her. Blesinde looks increasingly concerned as they move deeper into the chest, and is visibly scared when they open the false bottom. However, when they find the false bottom empty she appears to feel a mix of relief and smugness.
With exhaustion settling in all around, the group decides to call it a night. Merrix gives a not-idle threat to Blesinde in a last-ditch attempt to get information, and then gives up and leaves. Hurda returns her to stone, and she is placed in the closet with the other prisoners. They are all stone, with their symbols cut. The room is guarded by a Znir Pact and a member of the Ghaash'kala. The prisoners' belongings are taken to a separate room to be catalogued.
The party, for the most part, goes to bed. Ripper has a private chat with Xor'chylic. He updates him on the progress and asks for tips on interrogation. The Illithid is pleased with the update, but confused on the ask. Xor'chylic offers to simply eat the brains of anyone who won't cooperate. Ripper relays the offer.
Celosia spends her night playing an incredible set- truly one of the best of her career- at the tavern in Little Dura. She passes on The Ballad of the Greendale Seven to "Melody" Valesnath, who is humbled and honored. It seems almost the entirety of Little Dura is in attendance, and even pulls in several Znir Pact guards. Later, to make the night even more memorable, Simon Twoorb somehow shows up with one of the Ghaash'kala. The party goes well into the night.
