Arguillian Academy

The Arguillian Academy is an educational institution dedicated to teaching its students about foreign culture and language. The academy is well known on the southern side of the Seper Range and the east coast for its well-learned alumni. Many graduates serve as translators, interpreters or scholars to foreign and local courts.

Structure

The Academy has two roles outside of the student body; the Academy Head and Instructors. Typically, the Academy Head is in charge of all decisions pertaining to the operations of the Academy with Instructors working in advisory roles on occasion.

1. Academy Head - Makes decisions regarding the operation of the academy on the whole, including learning expeditions as well as the hiring of new instructors. Is involved in teaching matters on occassion.
2. Instructors - An instructor teaches students about a foreign culture in addition to instruction regarding language relating to the culture. Most instructors are either humans or half-elves who have spent a considerable period of time living amongst a specific culture. They act as leaders during learning expeditions.

Culture

The Academy maintains a keen interest in the goings on of the world at large, however this is constrained almost entirely to social and cultural developments, with little care given to political intrigue on an organizational level. While this laissez faire attitude is seen in the organisation, a small minority of graduates take a much keener interest in the political machinations of the world, even going so far as to become involved in foreign politics as a result.
Religion is a contentious subject within the Academy. Tolerance is the official stance, however most members believe that holding oneself to any god can lead to prejudice. The most widely accepted gods are those whose worshipers practice restraint in the wider world, such as Deneir and Milil. Similarly non-lawful nor chaotic gods such as Silvanus or Lathander have a history of their worshipers being prone to bouts of action spurred upon by fierce change in the wider world, a premise that goes against the core values the Academy tries to teach.

History

The Arguillian Academy was founded in 1430 by Menna Pich. At that point Menna had spent 10 years traveling the world, which includes time on the Darastrix Isle, the Huasort'e'ke, Muacaaxica Islands and even amongst the many denizens that dwell through the Underdark.
