Dwarves were the first non-native populace to arrive upon Skortenia, being a group who diverged from the same paths their kin took when reaching Tila'thyu as they ascended from their racial home deep in the Underdark.

Dwarves were the first among the three primary humanoids to reach Skortenia, having arrived in the Orikste Mountains sometime around the year -30000 AS. Having arrrived at a time when giants and dragons held majority control over the continent, they were immediatey placed in danger. While dwarves were never one to back down from a fight against either, rather than rushing to fight - they bided their time. Within 2000 years patience had paid off, and the pair of titanic monstrous species had forced the other into a state of decline, thus forcing each to retreat to fortified locations on and off the continent.   This left the mountains and hills of the continent ripe for exploitation, which the dwarves took advantage of, forming states in the Zapaykra Mountains
