Session 13: The champions of Venat

Andrios, 13th of Anagrypnion

General Summary

The battle raged on. The newly arrived cultists posed a threat but with the arrival of the wolves to aid the council, it was clear that the cultists wouldn't last long. Fyx made his way to Ponteus, gave him a potion so he could recover. Ponteus, seeing the wolves struggle against the newly arrived cultists, charged in but unfortunately he was cut down and fell over dead. One of the cultists with skulls on his lapel cast a spell that caused deep wounds all across one of the wolf's body and he too perished. Two other wolves fell unconscious while keeping the cultists at bay and preventing them from entering the house of healing. Meanwhile, inside the House of Healing, the council along with Sweet Potato dispatched the remaining cultists, though there was one of them who looked pretty weak but kept evading the council's attacks. With the cultists inside dealt with, the council head out and clean up the remaining cultists. As everyone else catches their breath, Kaliaros rushes to check on the other denizens of the house of healing. Ensuring everyone's ok, he asks them to start treating the wounded. Kaliaros prioritised the unconscious wolf which he named Sweet Carrot. Meanwhile, Melanthos arrived along with Baruch, he was saddened to hear of Ponteus's death but relieved everyone else was relatively unharmed. He told the council that the cultists had ambushed the City Watch barracks and tried to take the city. But the people of Andrios didn't back down, keeping the cultists from entering the centre of the city. Once the wolves helped the City Watch, they all worked together to dispatch the remaining cultists. Melanthos also mentioned that Dajar had been injured. Kaliaros set off in a rush to the Bronze Hoof. Nir and Fyx decided to try to calm down the people of Andrios so they headed to the city centre. Kadmos wanted to honor the dead wolf so he spent some time burying it in the forest. Fennan stayed behind to speak with Venat about aether and the monstrosities. Melanthos went to meet with Ponteus's family. Sweet Potato left to report what happened to Flame and Frost. At the Bronze Hoof, Kaliaros found Gaur a huge two-handed axe covered in blood. Gaur didn't say anything about it, he was just relieved that Kaliaros was treating his wife. Meanwhile, Nir and Fyx encountered the rushed militia formed by the citizens of Andrios. Seems they were being led by Eirene, after a short discussion about the possibility of Eirene joining the Wardens (to which she didn't really seem interested) Makar joined them distributing a new drink he had prepared called Caipiri. After a short while, Kaliaros made his way back and met up with Nir and Fyx. Makar promised a party at the Huntress once there was confirmation that the threat had ended and the three council members made their way back to the House of Healing. At the same time, Kadmos finished the burial of the wolf. Baruch made his way back to the Warden's Den. Nir, Fyx and Kaliaros arrived and they all made their way back to Venat and Kira. Now, without interruptions, Venat conducted the rituals while both Kaliaros and Fennan paid special attention to try to understand it. With the ritual complete, all signs of discolouration were gone. Venat gave Kaliaros a charm with the symbol of a dagger with a plume on the hilt as thanks for taking care of Kira. She also asked the council to investigate why the corruption was returning, why were they not a part of the pattern and how were they resistant to the corruption. When asked who can they go for help, Venat mentioned that it was very strange for Nylea and Karametra to be using their real names and suggested that the council try to commune with them at their first temples in the Nessian Woods and in Meletis. As Venat faded away she warned that Kira may take a few days to wake up. She added also that she was counting on them as she didn't really have anyone else to rely on, joking that the council were now her champions and that the council would meet her again. With Venat gone, the discoloration healed and Kira apparently recovering, the council had the chance to take a break and gather their thoughts. Before that, however, Kaliaros wanted to perform the "100ft test" to see if the healing of the discolouration also restored their speed. As they began to run, white tendrils (similar to the ones they saw during Venat's ritual) began to emerge from the ground. Suddenly, they shot at each of the members of the council and the black mark that each of them had now glowed a bright white.
