Light Elf

Light Elves are the pale-skinned race of elf which hail from the islands of Structuro and Structzeno. Light Elves regard themselves as closest to the appearance and culture of the original Old Elves and thus often think of themselves as superior in comparison to the other races of elf.

Homeland

Main Articles: Structuro & Structzeno   Together, Structuro and Structzeno are the homeland of the Light Elves. The two islands are situated within the arctic of Maji. Structuro is the largest of the two islands, while Structzeno is much smaller, found to the south of Structuro. In between the two islands lies the Cold Sea.   Structuro is regarded by outsiders as a frozen wasteland. Only through their heavy use of storm magic are the Light Elves able to successfully call this land home. Structuro also serves as the cultural and political capital of the Light Elves; the seat of the Elven Alliance is contained there.   Structzeno, being further south than Structuro, has a much milder climate. The Northern half of the island is very cold, resembling regions on Structuro, however the Southern half of the island contains a variety of different environments including swamps, arid regions, and temperate plains.

Description

Light Elves can be differentiated from their sister elves by their much fairer skin tone. Their skin appears pale and white. Because of this, they resemble the Old Elves, more so than their brown or black skinned relatives. The light elves also have similar colored hair, pale blonde or white.   The magical affinity of the Light Elves is much greater than that of any other elf, as it has been built into the lifestyle on an everyday basis throughout their history.

Culture

Light Elves consider themselves as superior over all others. The other races of elves, not including Orcs, are seen as lesser, but are deemed more useful within Light Elven societies than races of man or dwarf. The undead and beastfolk, including Orcs, are seen in an even lesser regard than that of men or dwarves; to the Light Elves, they are seen as "dirty" and a plague that should be vanquished. Due to their prejudices, Light Elves are very defensive of their homeland. They take every step necessary to remove "outsiders" from the islands. Citizens of Structuro pride themselves on the fact that the climate of their home is harsh and aggressively unlivable to non-Light Elves. Even though they view undead in a far lesser manner, summonable/resurrectable forms, such as zombies and skeletons, can be deemed useful as servants so long that no remnant of their original consciousness remains.   Although outsiders are treated harshly, Light Elves have very high standards of living for themselves, so much so that many others would consider most Light Elves to be somewhat snobbish. Intelligence and wealth are highly respected and sought after in Light Elven culture, resulting in a society where wealth and education are broadly distributed, allowing many Light Elves to become literate as well as resulting in a very low rate of poverty among Light Elves within their society. Light Elves also highly value order within their society. This has resulted in a strict system of laws and a disdain for actions or people that could be considered disorderly or abnormal. Influence from the Light Elven system of laws can be seen in the creation and function of the Elven Alliance.   The architecture of the Light Elves can be seen as a physical representation of their believed superiority and high standards of living. Light Elven homes are made from the dark, hard woods that populate their home islands. Often, intricate patterns are carved into the wood that makes up their buildings. The buildings themselves are constructed to appear tall and graceful, with multi-storied houses built to look like their own tiered palaces. The roofs of Light Elven homes and buildings are constructed with curved, bow shapes, often incorporating steeples into the design.

Religion

Main Articles: Old Elvish Pantheon & New Elvish Religion   The original Old Elves followed the Old Elvish Pantheon, which give totemic representations for each of their gods. They worshiped the Owl as the Spirit of Time, the Bear as the Spirit of War, the Dragon as the Spirit of the Sea, the Serpent as the Spirit of the Lost, the Eagle as the Spirit of Knowledge, and the Wolf as the Spirit of Death. Statues of these animals would be built and worshiped across Structuro and regions of Structzeno by early Light Elves.   The Light Elves didn't follow the Old Elvish Pantheon for long, however. Early into the history of Structuro, the New Elvish Religion appeared. This new religion, which would later be adopted by all of the elves, beside the Orcs, worshiped Kis' as the one Elvish god. The formation of this new religion tore a divide within the Old Elvish society. The followers of the new religion, led by Mercutio Structuro II, were seen as outsiders by followers of the Old Elvish Pantheon and were heavily persecuted. This culminated with the Battle on the Cold Sea, where one-hundred elven settlers were fleeing to Structzeno in search for religious freedom. They were stopped by a fleet of ships from Structuro, led by Mercutio Structuro. The battle ended with with Mercutio Structuro II killing his father and the One-Hundred escaping to Structzeno.   In subsequent years, the Old Elvish Pantheon would slowly be replaced by the New Elvish Religion throughout the Elven Islands. A religious artifact of the Old Elvish Pantheon, the Quill of Kis', said to contain the knowledge of a million minds and used to create detailed prophecies, remained an important part of the New Elvish Religion. The quill has continued to be passed down by the Light Elven royal family even after the switch to the New Elvish Religion.
