Temfala
Temfala is one of the four major cities in the Kingdom of Tropicosia; it is the capital of the Province of Temfala in the Kingdom of Tropicosia. Temfala is known for its rich history and logging industry, although not being considered as powerful a city within the kingdom when compared to the likes of Galenport or the Great Well City.
Description
Geography
The city of Temfala lies within the center region of the Isle of Gool, a densely vegetated region known as the Rainforests of Gool. Although being home to the largest province within the kingdom, the Rainforests of Gool are much more sparse of civilization when compared to its sister regions. Instead, the majority of the population is made up of feral apes, apes whose ancestors chose a tribal, nomadic lifestyle, opposed to the city-dwelling imperial apes. Of the few settlements dotting the jungle, Temfala is the largest with others including the ruined town of Hindenberg in the north, the mountainous settlement of Coldwall in the west, and the largely funniguy-inhabited New Andrew's Town in the south. Due to the inhospitable nature of the region, many of these cities and towns do not have roads directly connecting them to each other, requiring travelers to take routes outside of the province in order to reach such settlements. The area south of the city has been largely cleared of forest by the city's large logging industry and is now used as farmland. The logs cleared in the area surrounding Temfala are sent to the town of Cutwood, close to the west, where they are sent floating down the Timberfall River to Logger's Rest, a town within the west of the Great Well Province which contains an avid milling and trade industry. From Logger's Rest, the processed lumber is sent across the kingdom where it can be used or traded globally.City Layout
Temfala is a well-fortified city surrounded by a thick, brown wall composed of bricks made from hardened mud on all sides except for where the city meets the Shadowbrook, a tributary of the Timberfall River which runs alongside the northern edges of Temfala. The city is divided into two main districts; the northwestern Newtown, inhabited by mostly Spies and other immigrants, and the southeastern Old Temfala, inhabited mostly by the cities ape majority. In western Newtown lies the Artisan's Alley, a bustling market district where many businesses operate and craftsmen sell their wares. The Temfala Craftsman's Guild branch lies here, serving as a common place for artisans to find their community. Old Temfala is similarly divided into various districts; in the north and south are the Northern and Southern Slums respectively, largely being populated by those who themselves or their ancestors were formally feral apes. Many in these districts are still strongly tied to their tribes, often appearing as gangs within the city. The most prominent of these is the Black Hand Tribe, a tribe of feral apes that have historically resided in the area around Temfala, but have recently been integrating themselves into the city, becoming Temfala's most notorious criminal organization. Those with roots in feral ape tribes collectively worship at the Temple of the Old Gods, a temple dedicating to continuing the various traditions of the many tribes which dot the Isle of Gool. In the eastern corner of the city lies the Orang Court, the wealthiest of Temfala districts named after the orangs, a rare breed of ape which many of Temfala's government officials belong to. As the name implies, many of Temfala's government officials reside within this district, not only because of their wealth, but also due to its proximity to Temfala Tower, a massive tower where many government meetings are held at its top. In the center of Old Temfala lies Angelcrown Manor, the building which serves as both home to the Governor of Temfala and their place of work. Directly to the east of the manor is the Temple of Jophiel, a temple dedicated to the city's angelic origins and Archangel Jophiel, who watches over the High Hills and is often considered a guardian angel of the region by the people of Temfala.History
First Era
Founding of Temfala and Construction of Temfala Tower In the early first era, before even the apes or spies were to arrive on Maji, the district now known as Old Temfala was created by angels who had come to reside within the region after the migration of the elves, led by Archangel Jophiel. As Kis' Kingdom grew to lie above the Isle of Gool, Archangel Jophiel ordered the construction of Temfala Tower to connect the land to the sky and serve as a counterpart to the Sky Temple constructed by Archangel Gabriel. The tower got its name from the region of Kis' Kingdom which resided above the island; during this time, that region was referred to as Temfala, the namesake of the tower and eventually the city itself. Arrival of the Apes on Maji As many new races began to arrive on Maji, the Isle of Gool became a place of fierce competition for its abundance of natural resources. Eventually, the race of apes found themselves becoming the majority populous of the island, widely pushing out the angels and funniguys who lived their previously, ending the angel's reign over the island. In time, the city would become inhabited entirely by apes. The city would not grow to its modern size for awhile, however. Most apes have no interest in building new structures, instead inhabiting the abandoned cities of those who have long since left. Formation of the First Imperial Spy Empire With the formation of the Imperial Spy Empire during the end of the first era, the Isle of Gool become a hotspot for imperial mining operations. During this time, Temfala received an influx of immigrants from their allied kingdoms, the Imperial Kingdom and Kis' Kingdom. This wave of immigrants was not however as long as other cities upon the island, such as the Great Well City, largely due to Temfala's location deep in the Rainforests of Gool. Because of this, Temfala only saw minor expansions during this time.Second Era
Tiilaer's Invasion and the Great Flood During the course of the Second Great War, the city of Temfala was mostly unaffected due to its small size at the time and defensive location. Towards the end of the era, when Tiilaer attacked Maji with a force that had never been seen before, targeting almost every major city across the Dragonlands, Temfala was sparred from his wrath, likely deemed unimportant and ignored. Although being ignored by Tiilaer, the Great Flood which followed his invasion could not be ignored. Following the orders of Gabriel Jowwi, Temfala, like many other cities, began to construct many large ships for the purpose of carrying its people to new lands. Many of Temfala's residents did not trust in the ships abilities to save them from the Great Flood and instead fled to mountain peaks with the High Hills. These apes became the ancestors of the many feral apes who live in tribes across the Isle of Gool, including the Black Hand. As the water washed over the land and the second era came to a close, the city of Temfala was completely submerged for nearly a millennia.Sixth Era
Rediscovery of Temfala As the people of the West began to explore and re-inhabit the Dragonlands after its rediscovery, Temfala became an important city on the Isle of Gool. Temfala soon became the hub of all logging activity across the island, harvesting precious lumber needed to reconstruct cities across the continent and farther. With Temfala's newfound importance, it grew wildly in size, gaining the addition of Newtown, the city's slums, and the surrounding wall. It is also during this time that the Council of the Tower was formed, a council comprised of mainly orangs who meet and make decisions regarding the city and later the province as a whole. Return of Archangel Jophiel As Kis' Kingdom returned to the Dragonlands, Archangel Jophiel returned to residing over the High Hills, even though the surrounding region of Temfala no longer existed. She saw it as her goal to guide the people within the surrounding region as they returned to the Dragonlands. Her influence on the city of Temfala greatly affected its cultural. Within this period, the Temple of Jophiel was established within the city and the Council of the Tower began to regularly include her in their meetings atop the Temfala Tower. Founding of the New Kingdom of Tropicosia As the Kingdom of Tropicosia was recreated with a new, democratic system of government, Temfala was chosen as the seat of power within the province of the same name. As such, the city was now presided over by the Governor of Temfala, who the city and surrounding province elect every eight years. Although the government of the city had been greatly changed, the Council of the Tower remained, now serving as representatives of the city, approaching the governor with any changes they would like to see made, at which point the governor could decide whether or not to introduce said changes.Seventh Era
Rise of the Black Hand Tribe and Serafinowitz Family The seventh era was a dark time for many, with the sudden appearance of the Reaper within the west and the rise of the Ninja causing havok across the Dragonlands in search of the Black Box. Although the Ninja never established a branch within the city of Temfala, it too experienced its own rise in crime throughout the city. The Black Hand Tribe, who had resided within the forests surrounding the city since before its rediscovery, had begun integrating themselves within the city walls, mainly within the Southern Slums, becoming a notorious criminal organization. During this time, the city would also see the rise of the Serafinowitz family to power. The Serafinowitz family is a family of noble apes residing within Serafinowitz manor in the Orang Court. As their influence in the city grew, members of the family would often find themselves among the Council of the Tower, helping to make decisions for the city and province. Bonfon the Big and Friendly becomes Governor As the seventh era came to a close, Bonfon the Big and Friendly, a rare, intelligent gorilla and friend of the William-Spy Dynasty, was elected as the governor of Temfala. His kind and understanding public appearance has allowed him to keep this position to this day.Eighth Era
Rise of Ruadhan Gold-Spirit as Emperor With the sudden death of Emperor Francis William-Spy and the rise of Ruadhan Gold-Spirit as his successor to the throne, many changes were made to the city of Temfala and the empire as a whole. Soon after the declaration of the start of a new era, Emperor Ruadhan Gold-Spirt outlawed the use of phews among citizens of the empire and banned many books deemed a threat to the safety of the empire's citizens. With these changes made, imperial soldiers were sent to many cities across the empire, including Temfala to enforce these changes. As a result, the library within the city was boarded up and the many merchants selling phews within Artisan's Alley were told to cease their business. The changes made by the emperor have been controversial among citizens of the city, but they have not changed life much for most.
