Morrius Tarlor
Morrius Tarlor
Born in Mawgate to a family of skilled craftsmen. He led a fairly unremarkable childhood but was drawn to the Church of the Empire at a young age. The local priests took an interest in him because he was unbelievably intelligent and able to memorize and recite entire books from memory. He was accepted into the ranks of the religious scholars when he was of age, a great boon to the social standing of his family. Traveling clergy and paladins of Ziztarr would seek out Morrius to quiz him on the precepts of the Church of the Empire. Often providing him with other writings and religious texts to add to his knowledge. The High Bishop visited with some frequency, using Morrius's unique gifts to help him connect bits of theology. During one of these visits where the Bishops questions led him to a theological contradiction that the bishop could not explain nor provide any other texts to resolve. "It is the will of Ziztarr, we should not question. Let this conversation be forgotten, my boy." The High Bishop said to him.Devine inspiration
After that conversation, he could not forget the contradiction. The further he dug through his knowledge the more problems he discovered in the old writings and those of Fildaerae. Late one night in the depths of the Mawgate church library a new document came to mind and he began to scribe this in a new tomb. The more he looked the more he could find nothing like it in the library nor any visiting clergy. He had begun writing the Sanguine Lexicon with the holy inspiration of Ziztarr. The writings were contradicting the beliefs the church was based on. The more he wrote and shared the more the Church began to attempt to silence the young scholar. One day the High Bishop returned to question the boy and after a short but contentious conversation, Marrius was taken deep within the catacombs, chained, and left to die.The Believers
He was found and rescued by a few with which he had shared his new teachings. He went into hiding and continued his teachings and rewrote the Lexicon. The followers of this new teaching began to spread. He was branded a heretic and in 1152 the inquisitors came to Mawgate and began their extermination of these teachings. Morrius sent copies of the Lexicon with travelers to be placed in various Empire churches across Huer. He was eventually betrayed and the inquisition put him and his followers to the sword. Then raised their bodies from the dead and bound them to maintain the Grand Cathedral of St. Fildaerae. Morrius's teachings remain a periodic thorn to the Church of the Empire to this day and a few copies of the Sanguine Lexicon remain.
