"Creatures of horror, nightmare, and great power. They draw in those that seek power with empty promises. I don't think I'll ever see a shadow again that doesn't make me recoil and think of impossibly sharp teeth."
Gavril Runejaw
Sage of Tern
The creation of the outsiders came from the desire to imitate. While the other gods were creating their followers,
Ziztarr, God of death had little to occupy his time. One the
Garden Of Souls was complete he grew bored. He began to experiment. He travelled the new world gathering leftover sparks of creation. He first created the three sisters of death,
Tewzhan Dhelweard, Soul Collector, Denef Dhelweard The Cruel, and Sete Dhelweard The Ruination. He took great joy in his first creations and gave them parts of his responsibilities. Ziztarr found this creation exhilarating and enjoyed it but he had to venture out into space beyond the planes where his brethren reigned for more energy to the Courts for the Great Celestials. A place where his power was nothing and he began to steal bits of discarded essence. A bit here a bit there, like a mouse in a castle. Fueled by this essence and his imagination the Outsiders were born in earnest. Most were monstrosities he caged in his Menagerie though occasionally one of his creations would be worth of descending to Eglorix, assuming the place of lesser deities or something more base. As the thrill of creation waned he began to steal further energies and create more extreme things. This attracted the attention of the Great Celestials and their ire.
Escape
In the early days of the Time of Gods, the Menagerie failed and the monstrosities of Ziztarr were released on an unprepared Eglorix. No one is quite certain of the cause or how they escaped, most blame the carelessness of Ziztarr and others the Great Celestials. These creatures grew in strength, multiplied, and adapted ravaging the land and its people. The Gods and their heroes banished the Outsiders to beyond the
Void, created for just this purpose. Legend has it these heroes are where the names of the days originate from.
Banishment
Few but
Kentaz, Master of the Void and
Ziztarr, God of death know what lies beyond the Void and the things the outsiders endured. The Void was under constant assault as those creations or other things wanted back in. This barrier lasted until the end of the 3rd Epoch when the Void was destroyed.
Return
Between the destruction of the Void and the creation of the
Clockwork Gate an unknown number of these Outsiders returned to Eglorix each with its own purpose.
