Sorrowsong Lake

On the southern border of the Kingdom of Jote and Kingdom of Phev is a lake nestled in the foothills of the Blainhurst Peaks. A beautiful waterfall keeps the lake filled with cool water from the mountain and creates a mist that sparkles in the light. Not far from the major trade routes that connect the Ironwood Conclave, its crystal clear waters make it a tempting stop for travelers, but most avoid it.

Sorrowsong Lake

Travelers and tradesmen alike tell the tale of a mournful song that can be heard from any who are near the lake at night. Some say they have seen a beautiful woman crying over the bodies of two men slain in combat, some just see the woman weeping. It is said that the song affects people differently. Men claim to feel overwhelming regret, guilt or rage, whereas women report a feeling of incredible sadness. It is not uncommon for caravans or travelers to wake up the next morning to find one of the women from their group having disappeared, leaving all of their belongings behind.

Legend

According to legend, two princes were competing for the affection and hand of one of the local maidens. She was often oblivious to their intentions and spent time with both of them, eventually falling in love with both. As time went on, the two princes grew ever more jealous of the other and finally one challenged the other to a duel on the shores of a mountain lake. By the time the maiden discovered their plans and went to stop them, it was too late and she found them dead from their wounds on the lakeshore. She wept and wept. When she could cry no more, she sang a beautiful and mournful song that echoed and rang throughout the lake valley. When the song was finished, she walked into the lake. They say her song still echoes through the valley at night and calls those jilted by love or love lost, into the depths of the lake.
