Waters of Stokemar

"The Waters of Stokemar is the reason Jote and Phev was able to survive the Third Epoch as well as they did. I don't know what old Stokemar charged them but I'm sure it wasn't enough."
What is now named the Waters of Stokemar is a sea that is bordered on most sides by the continents of Dane. The mainland to its west and south and Lux to the northeast it provides Dane with much of its oceanic resources.

The Zevalon Sea

Before the Third Epoch this area was called the Zevalon Sea after the empire that grew up around it. The Zevalon Dynasty was said to have come from the sea itself, as its waves crashed on the shores of Dane so expanded the Dynasty until all of Dane was under its rule. Many small towns and harbor villages were planted by high-ranking and well-connected members of the Dynasty. The warm waters and refreshing breezes that come from the sea made its shores obvious choices for the elite to vacation. Each city planted was a rival to the next and one to outdo the other. Atonver is one of the handful of Zevalon ports that remains. When the Sira’Kahn landed in modern Kingdom of Jote the purpose of the sea and its ports changed from pleasure craft and luxury to that of warfare. The Shipyards were mobilized to build an armada to defend the shores of the Dynasty and ward off further incursions. With Sira'Kahn's fleets shipyards much further away the Dynasty maintained naval superiority through the conflict thanks to the safety of the Sea and its resources.

The End of the Empire

When the Sira'kahn mysteriously fell and the wars were over the elite of the Zevalon once again looked to the sea for peace and relaxation but this was sadly not to be. The war had taken its toll on the Dynasty and the citizens of Dane saw their chance to be free from its rule. The people rose up and the Dynasty began to crumble. The long years of fighting left the continent fractured into three primary factions, two fighting over the sea. While the revolt raged on land the seas began to grow wild, Wild Seas. This did not go unnoticed by, Blaise Stokemar

Control of the sea

Stokemar knew the strategic importance of the Sea to the continent and the failing Dynasty. Stokemar had been at the forefront of the Dynasty's fight against the Sira'kahn and the race for magical supremacy. Many believed that the methods and magics the Dynasty reached for at the war's end were too much and too far but only chose to criticize after victory. He applied the same tactics he used in the war in his quest to secure the Seas. Stokemar ignored the critics and the ones who would stand by saying shouldn't, can't, and blasphemy. He began to build the Stokemar Pylons and started placing them in places he determined to be critical to his plans. He was able to scrape together resources from the old war efforts that weren't in use and some bare support of the Dynasty. As he began to place the pylons throughout the sea his plans began to work and stabilize the Sea, they also attracted the attention of the wild entities that were inhabiting the seas. With each pylon he placed the more opposition he faced, with the some of the final pylons requiring multiple attempts and multiple lost ships.

Legacy

It became evident to the various factions that Stokemar's plans were working and safeguarding the Sea from the things that were happening to the rest of the oceans. With the final Pylon ready to deploy, the rebel fleet of Jote and the Dynasty's navy joined in the effort to finish the job. After a great naval war against elementals and wild creations of the seas, the final pylon was deployed as Stokemar and his vessel was pulled into the depths by a great kraken. When the pylon began its work in conjunction with all the others the elementals and other such creatures were banished or destroyed, the sea returning to its previous calm state. Seeing success and that Stokemar was lost, the fleets turned upon each other in an attempt to quickly gain naval dominance. The Dynasy's fleet had unfortunately suffered much greater in the previous battle and was defeated, the tipping point that led to the Dynasty's collapse.   With Stokemar lost at sea and his research with him, little is known about how the pylons work or if there is more to them. They have been studied over and over by many arcane masters but few answers have revealed themselves save that they work.   On clear nights from the harbors or out on the Stokemar Waters you can see the pulsing lights of the pylons doing their work and calming the seas.
