Karassend Hysteria
The Karassend Hysteria was a three-day period of magical mayhem centered on the Vundkragi town of Karassend in the summer of 1026. It began with minor scattered illusions the morning of July 26th, with episodes increasing in severity and frequency for three days, culminating in an earthquake at midnight on July 29th. The phenomena observed included but were not limited to partial or complete transmutations of objects and creatures; plants sprouting from nothing; illusions; group and individual hallucinations; drastic changes in mood and personality; and portals opening from Olympus, the Beastlands, the Abyss, and the Feywild. All effects ended, though much destruction was left behind and many creatures stranded on the wrong side of a portal, at midnight after three days were up.
The event gave rise to much speculation regarding its origin, with many positing that the blame rested on a variety of powerful creatures on one of the planes accessed during the event. Several investigations, including ones into nearby wizards and excursions out to sea to seek an explanation from under the water, failed to yield any fruit.
