EooD Session 38: Rakka's Heroes

General Summary

Month 1, Week 3, Year 901
Day 10 in the Underdark
The fight inside Castle Hainaut continued to rage, with Sariel Baudissin and Naberius facing off against the entirety of the Dark Souls. Allexander Hainaut and Nicolle Aribond offered spellcasting support while Jael rushed in to revive fallen allies.   There were several close calls during the fight, like when Sariel trapped Poolp in a reality-warping vortex and Naberius cast 'Feeblemind' on Lachesis. But the Dark Souls' numbers overwhelmed even the most powerful spells cast by the Baudissins. At one point Poolp dunked Naberius into his barrel of holy water, and it wasn't long after that Verity delivered the killing blow with a well-placed silver arrow. Naberius had managed to kill Arnulf and deal significant amounts of damage to the party, but the party wore him down and banished him from Ereldra's corpse and the material plane at-large.   The Hainauts immediately began the transfer of power in the Verschow following the defeat of Naberius and the Baudissins. Servants from all the major houses teleported into Castle Hainaut to pay their respects and congratulate Marwen on her new position as leader of the Verschow. The Dark Souls had more immediate matters to deal with, like reviving Arnulf and finding a cure for Lachesis' feeblemindedness. Marwen helped deal with the latter, but the spell used to remove this curse was devastating to her health and would leave her permanently weakened.   To deal with the former problem, Nineveh carted Arnulf's body over to a body of water on the edge of Dromire for the Lady of the Lake to work her magic. Nineveh and Verity tagged along to witness this miraculous revival, Arnulf rising up from the water with lighter eyes and a luminous hand crossbow. The Lady of the Lake now had another courier in her service.   Day 11 in the Underdark
The party didn't take much time to celebrate their victory before racing out to Rel-Kadrar for peace talks with Rakka. Marwen needed extra support to make it there, but by the day's end they had arrived at the The Red Coals inn for the negotiations. Lachesis, free from the effects of her feeblemind, met with the leaders of the Verschow noble houses like Jeremias Ripperda and Felosial Aribond to discuss the types of demands they'd like to see in the treaty. She also took the time to meet with her sister Marwen in private, explaining to her some of the local politics that she may have missed in the past half-century The rest of the party retired to their rooms for the night, Verity having a surprise run-in with Father Eli Anderson thanks to Poolp.   Day 1 in Rel-Kadrar   The negotiations began in earnest the following day with Marwen and Proserpine Hafiz representing the new leadership in their respective kingdoms. With Father Eli acting as the neutral third party the negotiations proved surprisingly productive: the Verschow would have two permanent seats on Rakka's military council, and in return the Verschow would make some much-needed reforms to Underdark society. Both sides found points of interest they could collaborate on, agreeing that it would take decades before the two kingdoms could coordinate on high-security military projects. It would take decades before the two kingdoms would be properly united, but the Treaty of Rel-Kadrar put an end to four centuries of fighting between the region's tieflings and dark elves.   Epilogue
Dozens of adventurers risked life and limb to defeat Naberius and save Rakka from a devastating civil war, and with peace ensured the heroes went their separate ways. Some returned home to friends and family, some went into self-imposed exile to seek a new lease on life, and others started new ventures and adventuring guilds to deal with future threats to the world's stability. Same stayed behind in Rakka, keeping the faith in their homeland and ensuring that no other fiends would try to corrupt all that they'd worked so hard to create.   After months of unrest and uncertainty, a new era dawned in Rakka and the Verschow. With its longtime rival the Elflands destroyed just a few years prior Rakka now stood as the largest military power in Southern Pescat, more stable and unified than ever before. How this affected the world in the decades to come is a story for another campaign.
