GHG Session 27: The First Time as Tragedy, the Second Time as Horse
General Summary
Month 13, Week 2, Year 918
The party took a couple days to recover from their dockside battle and gather more info on these Gruumsh-worshipping lizardfolk. Zan'kiri had scared enough people away to get his hands on the bodies of a couple lizardfolk killed at the docks, taking a psychic spike to their mind to interrogate them from beyond the grave. He learned that there was a lizardfolk hideout lurking beneath the sewers, along with a useful keyword for getting through the tunnels: Ash to Ash, Bone for Bone, Blood for Blood. Windred began racing around town in horse form searching for the location of the hideout, Bubbles and Beguiler riding on her back while she bludgeoned a Chusei University guard with her hooves. Zan'kiri spent his time a bit more productively, creating mini magic items that would help the party communicate with the locals and at least assure the public that all of their chaos was in the service of the University. The rest of the party found ways to be productive in its own ways, Ysmyrelda exploring the edges of town to find some local Handgun contacts. She introduced herself to the group's regional leader Ryota, and while he was at first suspicious he welcomed the opportunity to use an insider at Chusei to plan a heist on the university's Museum of Natural Wonders. Beguiler also struck a deal with Ys to gather intel on Theo Vechian, visiting the Despero embassy to collect Vechian family records, a vague map of the Koulan Forests, and an erotic novel called The Lusty Tabaxi. Later that week the party visited Chusei's campus for a physical exam and testing of their magic abilities by a stern dragonborn woman named Prof. Quespa. The tests were only clinically unpleasant for most of the adventurers, but Reetma did get some strange readings from his tests (maybe having to do with his resurrection by a Gruumsh-worshipping cultist). But Prof. Quespa's instruments had trouble reading Windred's magic output, disrupted by some kind of underlying spell affecting the young druid's memory. Shocked by this information, Windred deftly convinced Quespa to find someone who could deal with this mental block. Kyoko Hara, leader of Chusei University, made time out of her busy schedule to cast 'Greater Restoration' on Windred and order the party to focus their efforts on eliminating the Gruumsh-worshiping lizardfolk. As disturbing memories started to come flooding back, Kyoko explained that Windred would have to speak with the caster of the spell to fully reverse its effects: Nerissa Ozlow. That afternoon Windred walked out into an empty field to confront her mom over these modified memories. Tear-stricken, she removed the enchantment and let Windred remember everything she'd tried to help her forget. For months Windred belived that she'd first met Craghan in Gameria earlier in the summer, but it turns out that was the second time they'd met. The first time was more than a decade ago back in her lighthouse home in Avicenna, when a 14-year-old Windred was walking by the shore one night staring up at the sky and planning her future tattoos. She heard some crying near the lighthouse, finding a deranged Craghan begging for help and any signs of life. Windred stepped forward and he started calling her Nerissa, thankful to see a familiar face even after everything he'd been through. Windred had to explain that she wasn't her mother, and something started breaking inside Craghan. This githzerai couldn't comprehend the fleeting passage of time and how it plagued all life on Ekal, so he blamed it on the quori spirit blossoming inside of Windred. He lunged forward to try to save the young kalashtar from a fate of aging and death, but Nerissa raced forward spells blazing to repel the invader. When she was Windred's age she was once generous enough to help a poor soul like Craghan, but that was a lifetime ago. As the githzerai raced into the night Nerissa held Windred close, casting 'Modify Memory' to ensure that she'd never have to remember such a horrible moment. Despite these revelations, the adventure must go on. The party finally located an underwater portal into the lizardfolk hideout, a perfect opportunity for Beguiler to try out his lizard costume. Offering some lizardfolk teeth at the portal's altar (bone for bone), the party began its decsent once more into some dangerous sewageways...
