Lakefinder Session 15: Is this a dagger which I see before me?
General Summary
Month 13, Week 3, Year 935
After several days in Havre the party was starting to map out a web of clues surrounding the murders. Were they a result of some gruesome marketing campaign to attract more attention to Siltral's racist play The Last Laugh? Were interplanar clowns latching onto the negative energy of the elves involved to commit heinous acts of bloodlust? Leena shared these theories with the rest of the group as well as their ally Flick Patras, heading over to one of the many salons in town to collect more evidence. Yesterday Glynni had told them to go and speak with a high elf man named Beleg, a sympathizer of Siltral's racist playwrighting who had a history of conspiring to resurrect the Elflands Empire. A couple of well-placed lies got the party a one-on-one interview with the elf, and while Beleg seemed amused by the killings it quickly became appartent that he wasn't responsible for the murders. That left only a couple of leads to pursue, all of which brought the party back to the Theatre d'Odeline to interrogate The Last Laugh's lead actors Alain and Arianne. Leena kept Siltral distracted with taunts and detailed questions while Karly handled the interrogations of the actors, with Alain quickly becoming the person of interest. Both Siltral and Arianne made comments about how Alain's whereabouts on the night of the murders couldn't be accounted for, and Alain appeared sickly and nervous during the questioning. Alain's suspicious behavior continued as he moved over to Leena to confront her about bullying Siltral, but when Leena stayed defiant Alain's facade finally collapsed. Within moments the actor transformed into a monstrous clown, the creature bursting from Alain's throat and vomiting up a sharp knife like the one used by the clown in Qazvin. Kai and Eraji fired off at the clown with devastating blows, but Leena bore the brunt of the monster's spells and stabbings until she collapsed to the floor unconscious. Kai managed to deliver a fatal blow that turned the clown to mush, but not before the killer delivered a fatal blow to Leena. The adventurers would become local celebrities for their defeat of the killer clown, handsomely rewarded for their investigation. Scandal erupted around the Siltral's play, The Last Laugh being cancelled indefinitely due to the death of its leading man. But the Co-Questers couldn't savor this victory, too focused on the death of their loyal friend. Eraji had raced to the nearest Temple of the Ageless One with Leena's body, but even the best efforts of Despero's highest-ranking priestess weren't enough to bring the adventurer back from the dead. Desperate measures would need to be taken to revive Leena, perhaps even a trip across multiple continents to find an even more powerful cleric to perform the ritual.
