The Black Masks

The Black Masks are the official holy order dedicated to Mortona, goddess of death. Unlike the various other holy orders that came about post the return of The Divine Dozen, it is documented that The Black Masks were founded some years earlier, by a Half-Elf and cleric of Mortona called Aer Daneth. Aer would travel the land with her followers, healing the sick and otherwise doing good deeds.   The order were officially known as "Foeir Anand" at the time, but they become more commonly known as "The Black Masks" for the face coverings they wore, supposedly to help prevent the spread of disease. This name has since stuck, and become their official moniker.   Now an established holy order, The Black Masks continue to do good work, and spread their beliefs:   The Black Masks have a true reverence for death. Members of the order believe that death is a natural part of the cycle of life, and that it should be respected. They see themselves as guardians of the natural order, who are tasked with maintaining the balance between life and death.   The members of the order believe in the importance of knowledge and wisdom when it comes to matters of death and the afterlife. They seek to understand the mysteries of death and to share that knowledge with others, in order to help them cope with their own mortality.   Naturally, members of The Black Masks abhor the undead, and seek to destroy them wherever they may pop up.   High-ranking members of the church as known as "Veiled Ones", and wear black gossimer veils in the place of the usual black masks.
