Mortona
The Goddess of Death. She presides over the death of all living creatures - both natural and unnatural. It is believed that preying to Mortona can prolong a life that is soon to end, or end a life prematurely. Praying to this Goddess is seen as highly controversial for this reason.
Mortona is rarely depicted in art due to the controversy around her worship, however when she has been created in art she is often shown as a grey-skinned woman with flowing white hair. Her attire is almost always black and red, the colours of death and blood and she is often shown holding an hourglass of blood, to represent the inevitable end that all life must come to.
Mortona's agents are known as the Seraphs of Death. They are depicted as humanoid creatures with jet black feathered wings. It is believed that when a person dies, their soul is collected by one of these Seraphs and taken to their afterlife. A common saying for someone who is dying (of illness, etc.) is that they are 'seeing the Seraphs'.
