Pan Lung

Pan lung, also known as coiled dragons, are dragons that are found in crypts and temples in Lungao.

Description

Pan lungs are physically distinguished by their enormous size up to 142 feet in length. They resemble shen lung in appearance but are longer and thinner. Born with gray scales, a pan lung can develop scales in a number of colors. Green, orange, and red scales are the most common. Its scales are naturally oily, which makes them shimmer in sunlight. THey have a polychromatic mane that surrounds their neck, and have dark whiskers.

Personality

Pan lungs are unconcerned with the affairs of other lung dragons and will only work with other dragons if ordered to do so by the Celestial Bureaucracy. They resent and are fiercely jealous of t'ien lung and will sometimes attack one unprovoked in a jealous rage.

Combat

Taking the time to evaluate their enemies, a pan lung will wait until they have fully appraised the skills and limitations of an adversary before attacking. They will cast Phantasmal Force or Ventriloquism to distract attackers or summon one of their minions to attack instead. When a pan lung decides to attack, they do so savagely. In melee attacks they use their claws, teeth, and tail to inflict horrible damage on their foes. They will also coil their tail around a victim and constrict them, preventing their attacker from launching any more attacks or squeezing the life out of them.

Abilities

A pan lung has several innate magical abilities. They are able to use scale command to command several creatures, the number of which depends on the dragon's age. THey can also cast water fire. Three times per day, a pan lung can cast bane, bless, Charm Monster, major image, Phantasmal Force, silent image, and Ventriloquism. Once a day they can cast Mirage Arcane and Phantasmal Killer.

Ecology

At birth they can immediately breath both water and air. Despite not having wings, a pan lung is able to fly. This is achieved with magical blood-red pearls embedded in their brains. If found on adead pan lung or removed from alive one, this pearl is worth 1,000gp yet does not retain its magical abilities. Their lairs are in the crypt or temple assigned to them by the Celestial Bureaucracy, which they guard jealously. This duty is passed down to the offspring of a pan lung, presuming they also become a pan lung.   Unlike most dragons, pan lungs are herbivores, with a diet mainly of fruits and vegetables. They have intricate and vast gardens which are tended by their minions.

Celestial Bureaucracy

Within the Celestial Bureaucracy, pan lung serve as guardians of hidden places. The Celestial Bureaucracy will often punish Humans who are disloyal to their family by making them minions of a pan lung. Once a minion, they do not age and serve a term determined by the Celestial Bureaucracy. A minion obeys its pan lung master unconditionally, even to death. As well as minions, some pan lung have slaves, usually controlled with scaly command.
