Knowler was trying to find a way to make the Battle Mages more efficient in their protection of Scholars and the city of Hystoria. He found something useful about an ancient magical art of Astnyr.

Knowler discovered a ruin in the Great Wilds of the region. Not only was it evidence that there used to be an ancient civilization in Astnyr, but magic was possible in these lands. The god found traces of magic that could burn anything in its path, as well as destrucive effects through a mortal body. He began training Wizards and Flame Archers immediately of this magic. This helped the Battle Mages be more profecient in protecting Hystoria, but the cost could be catastrophic in the future.
