Elf

Basic Information

Anatomy

Elves are typically slightly taller than humans, though each subrace varies in height, with wood elves being shorter than high elves by comparison. Elves are also typically angular in facial structure, and generally more lithe and soft-skinned than humans, though Neldorlander wood elves may be more toned and broad naturally than their Decretian counterparts. Elves are especially noted by their pointed ears, more prominent than those found on a Gnome or Tiefling.

Growth Rate & Stages

Elves mature physically at about the same rate as humans, though because their race lives much longer, they measure maturity by experience rather than physical age. An elf is not considered an adult until around 75 years old, where they can use an adult name and refer to themself as an adult.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Elves tend to have thinner, more angular facial structure, with noticeable pointed ears of slightly varying length depending on parentage, region, and type of elf. Wood elves have slightly shorter ears that may point slightly further back, while high elves typically have slightly longer ears that point a tad more upward.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Elves can be found in all of the regions of Eldamar, but vary slightly by each area. For instance, wood elves are fairly uncommon in Neldorland, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a wood elf in Durram, whereas high elves struggle to live in the harsh climate of Neldorland.   In Durram, you are likely to find high elves, as the culture seems to attract high elves more than any of the other elves.    In Decreto, wood elves are common, and with them many half-elves, though high elves tend to abhor the natural landscape and avoid it.   Due to the dual nature of Antrim, one can find both wood elves and high elves in the east, but not always in the same place. Wood elves are more commonly found in the smaller, rural areas of the region, whereas the high elves are more often found in the larger cities and towns, especially in  Old Town, known for it's Hightower and Mage's District.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Elves can see in the dark and dimly lit situations, and they have keen senses that make it easier for them to sense or perceive their surroundings.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Physical appearance is important to the elves, but each subrace differs in what each finds important in physical appearances.    For the high elves, beauty is highly important. The more that a high elf looks like the archetypal ideal of a high elf, the better their standing in the eyes of other high elves, although knowledge and magical prowess are generally more favorable if they had to choose.   Wood elves favor natural tones more, preferring those that favor natural styles over those that choose styles out of the norm for their geographic area. A Decretian would find a Neldorlander of the same race highly unattractive, simply because of geographical differences in how they wear their appearance.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Elves typically speak Common and Elvish, though some elves may learn other languages such as Sylvan or Primordial depending on their closeness to nature or the fey. In addition, they may know other languages common to their region, such as Dwarvish if they are from Durram.

Historical Figures

Lifespan
Approx. 500 years
Average Height
Elves average anywhere from just under 5 feet tall to just above 6 feet tall in height, though this may differ depending on the region. Decretian elves, for instance, are shorter and more lithe than their other region counterparts.
Average Weight
Elves are typically more lithe and slender than other races, so their weight can range from 100 to 145 lbs on average. Neldorlander elves are typically stockier though, and may way considerably more due to their muscle mass and general size in comparison.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Elves skin takes on the typical shades of human skin, though can have slight different tones of color depending on the type of elf and region. Durramer or Antrimian elves may often have pale, alabaster skin with a slight blue tint to it, whereas Decretian and Neldorlander may have more bronze skin with the occasional tint of green.
