Sanctus
While one legend suggests the entire territory has been poisoned from overexposure to immoral magic. Another foretells a curse put on the land as an act of wrath from an omnipotent sorcerer. While neither legend is absolute, the bleak current state of Sanctus leaves either as a viable option as a window to the past.
Geography
Sanctus is predominantly scant flatlands, with sloping hills and rugged mountains towards the southern borders. The northeastern most tip carries most of the scenery for the whole territory. Found here is a wildwood adjoining a grand burial ground. For water resources, Sanctus’s northern most border is the sea. There are also three rivers that run through this territory. Periculum, Uada, and Mortem. Periculum River runs from Perdita Cove, winding around Caedes and continues southwest towards the border of Tsayanjar Khaganate. The Uada River is the smallest river. It breaks away from the Periculum river and heads a short way south into the middle of Sanctus. The Mortem River is the largest of the three. It runs from the Perdita Cove southeast, past the borders and into the Drior Empire. All three rivers run black, although they flow from the seas. Once they touch within the borders of Sanctus, the water turns a murky, onyx black.
Ecosystem
Sanctus is the most lifeless territory in Eladarnioa. Very little vegetation grows, and what does, grows sparse and scattered. Most of the trees grow gnarled and twisted, with onyx colored bark. Giving the illusion of being more skeletal than plant. Barrelstalks can be found occasionally entangled in the jutted roots of the trees. Small cassil shrubs can be found scattered throughout the barren landscape. Along the southern border in the more frigid spaces, corvadish and barisic can be harvested. Along the rivers and the Perdita Cove the occasional toreape plant can be found.
Localized Phenomena
There is a perpetual fog and an eerie aura of gloom and trepidation that lingers within the fog. The continual presence of the fog seems to diminish the amount of sunlight that can be seen. Creating an almost permanent dusk.
Tourism
The poisonous plant life and perpetual fog has increased the shady side of businesses. The lack of other agriculture and resources has forced the towns to forget integrity. To survive mortality was taken out of business. Crime has overtaken this territory as a result. Caedes seems to be the hub for all the nefarious people of higher status to gather and do business, enthroning it as the capital.
