Talarion Whitewing
The man known as 'The Great Sinner', who singlehandedly had The Eternal Rest change some of their principles to punish him for his crimes. The tale of Talarion Whitewing is a famous one within The Eternal Rest, as he was arrested by its founder Ariane Zincaryn and punished by their goddess herself.
They say he still serves his sentence somewhere, in a dungeon guarded by the most trusted of Loralie's clerics.
The Tale of Ariane Zincaryn and Talarion Whitewing
After the founding of The Eternal Rest, Talarion posed as a cleric of Loralie while in reality he had never received her blessing. He used the power and influence he got as a member of the organization to spread false truths about the goddess and the organization, as well as achieve his other goals that had little to do with faith. They say he executed innocent people that had crossed him in the past and judged people he carried a personal grudge towards for crimes they had not committed, all in the name of Loralie The Goddess of Death. He used his irresistable charm and his extravagant way with words to get whatever he wanted all for a single goal. He wanted immortality for himself and his wife: Elspeth Whitewing, an eternity full of power and wealth. They were both nothing but con artists, but Ariane saw through his lies. She communed with Loralie and told her of his sins. Loralie answered with a vision of Talarion standing in front of a crowd of commoners, announcing the sins of several innocent men with the intention of having them executed. Loralie informed Ariane that these men were people who had crossed Talarion in the past, men who had likely done the right thing. Ariane found herself speechless as they watched the men's final minutes. After some discussion Loralie decided to give the man what he wanted. Immortality, but in the form of an eternity of suffering. When his mind had finally broken and he had paid for his sins she would grant him death. Talarion was openly announced a sinner and The Eternal Rest took distance from his actions, claiming that he did not act out the will of their goddess and that he would face a new type of punishment - They promised he would serve his sentence.Talarion and Elspeth
Before joining The Eternal Rest, Talarion was a greedy man who travelled the land with his wife Elspeth Whitewing. They were both con artists who sold useless items under the false pretext that they were something more valuable. They robbed anyone: bandits, merchants and nobles alike - running elaborate schemes to get what they wanted. The one thing Talarion loved more than money was Elspeth. When The Eternal Rest was founded, Talarion found a new goal: an eternity with the woman he loved, and there was no better place finding a way to cheat death than within the church of the Goddess of Death. But as Talarion gained influence and power within The Eternal Rest, he changed. Elspeth kept reminding him that if he kept pretending to be a saint and a savior, eventually he would face the wrath of the gods. She pleaded that they stepped back, they did not need an eternity as long as they had each other. Talarion was unsatisfied with her pleas. He was not someone who gave up. With the conviction that came with the faith he supposedly followed came an arrogance and hubris that was unmatched. What he said was law, and he knew it. He began exacting revenge on men who had gone against him in the past, ordering their executions in the name of the Lady of Death. Karma would catch up to him one day as Ariane Zincaryn informed Loralie of his misdeeds, and from there he would be given exactly what he wanted. An Eternity with the woman he loved. An eternity full of torture, death, and suffering. After they were taken to The Dungeons of Revelation, Elspeth was used as a means to torture Talarion. They would hurt her in unspeakable ways in front of her husband. Some say what finally broke Talarion was watching the woman he loved die after several millennia of torture.
