Ariane Zincaryn

The founder of The Eternal Rest and the woman who was nicknamed "Loralie's Chosen" as she was one of the very few clerics throughout recorded time who has been able to commune directly with Loralie The Goddess of Death. The story of Ariane and Talarion is a famous one within The Eternal Rest, and it is said that Talarion still serves his sentence in a dungeon somewhere, guarded by the most trusted of Loralie's clerics. While Ariane is now long since dead, she is often depicted in art pieces involving Loralie, often as a small figure standing before her goddess' grace or depicted standing next to Loralie as her chosen.

The Tale of Ariane Zincaryn and Talarion Whitewing

In the early ages of The Eternal Rest; long before they began recording time, Ariane was a loyal cleric within the service of Loralie. She gathered clerics and priests under Loralie's faith to create an organization so they could serve their goddess more effectively. But as time passed she learnt that not everyone followed Loralie's teachings as they should. Among the ranks of The Eternal Rest was a man named Talarion Whitewing, a charismatic Human whom people were naturally drawn too. He spread false prophesies about the Lady of Death, and lied through his teeth in an attempt to gain influence within the Eternal Rest and among the people. But Ariane Zincaryn saw through his lies, and through a solid investigation learnt of the mans true goals. He wanted immortality for himself and his woman, an eternity full of power and wealth. Both of them were nothing but con artists, aiming for the ultimate treasure, immortality.   Ariane communed with Loralie and told her of his sins while also asking how she should deal with the man. At that moment Loralie covered The Soul Well in her dark mist and showed what the man was currently doing. Talarion was at that moment standing in front of a crowd of commoners, announcing the sins of several innocent men with the intention of having them executed. Loralie informed Ariane that these men were people who had crossed Talarion in the past, men who had likely done the right thing and Ariane found herself speechless as they watched the men being beheaded.   When Ariane broke her silence she asked Loralie why she granted such a terrible man her blessing, and Loralie explained that she never did. He was nothing but a con artist. After some discussion Loralie decided to give the man what he wanted. Immortality, but in the form of an eternity of suffering. When his mind had finally broken and he had paid for his sins she would grant him death.   Talarion was openly announced a sinner and The Eternal Rest took distance from his actions, claiming that he did not act out the will of their goddess and that he would face a new type of punishment, they promised he would serve his sentence.
