The Undying
The Undying was a group of 5 Necromancers who worked together with the intent of bringing Strathos to its knees. These 5 incredibly powerful individuals all went under aliases to preserve their identities, and using the dangerous magic they possessed they destroyed a large potion of Elladonia.
During the war of the Undying, the groups leader The Dead King lost his life, and clerics affiliated with The Eternal Rest was able to directly send his soul to their goddess. This resulted in the end of the great war, as the other Necromancers tried to flee but where overrun by the sheer power of the combined military strength of several nations which also possessed the aid of several religious orders.
The members of the Undying faced their end at the hands of mighty heroes from various nations, and many nations celebrate the victory of the War of the Undying as something that brought the nations together as they overcame a greater enemy.
The Current State of the Undying
While the stories of the war have been twisted in favor of the victors of the war, the truth is that only The Dead King lost their life during the War of the Undying. After his death the group fled the scene and the Undying was disbanded with each remaining individual turning to their own private goals. The Dark Maiden, having regretted the actions of her and The Undying believed that the only way she could make amends for her sins was to take down the remaining members of the group. As such she killed The Soul Seamstress, stealing her grimoire in the process. The Deathbringer, who knows that The Dark Maiden is coming for her next is building an army, with the intent of killing her before she can kill him. While The Blood Knight is building a cult of Vampires with the hopes of freeing Katerina the First Vampire from her prison.Great Secrets of Necromancy
Each member of the group possessed a grimoire containing the secrets of their trade. Though, as they crushed the limits of what was believed to be possible with necromancy, they encoded their grimoires so that one could only obtain all the secrets if they possessed all the grimoires. It was their way of swearing loyalty to one another, as if they ever stopped working together, countless necromantic secrets would be lost. Today, The Dark Maiden is in possession of two grimoires, while the other living members only possess one. The final grimoire, which originally belonged to The Dead King is said to be locked away in a hidden vault by The Elladonian Royal Family.
