The Four Lords of Teron

The Four Lords of Teron is made up of four noble families, all of which own much of the city of Teron and obtain their wealth through grotesque tax rates and the night-tyrannical enforcement of said tax rates. Each of the families live the Keep of the Four Lords, as well as conduct their business and hold court for those that have broken the Rights of Barter. In an effort to keep things equal as possible, all soldery, tax-collectors, courtiers, and other figures that give those in power their power, swear their fealty to the Four Lords, not any one house in particular. However, as all things go with money, the halls of the keep and the streets of the city run gold with bribes of true loyalty. And because of the Rights of Barter, these bribes are theoretically unprovable. This mutual facade of trust has created a house of cards that holds the city's government together. That, and the fear of losing their fortune would there be any infighting. Mutually assured destruction is potent indeed.

Structure

The four families, which ideally hold equal power, are as follows:
House Lambert House symbol is a bull, as their money origianlly came from animal husbandry and butchering. Thier ancestor, Ludus Lambert, is the one that killed King Able, solidifying the family's nicknames as the Butchers. Which is fitting, as they are the most ruthless of the four houses. The current head of house is Callié Lambert.
House Xontiranir House symbol is a chain. The elven family made their money with forgeworks, melding elven smithing techniques with human ones. As it goes with Eresselians, House Xontiranir are prideful, aloof, and cunning. The family were the ones to posit the idea that eventually turned into the Rights of Barter. The current head of house is Elanthis Xontiranir.
House Borr House symbol is a cross. The house patriarch during the revolution was a retired mercenary who retired with great wealth. That money has carried the family to where it is today. House Borr has a love for drama, both on and off the stage, and is known for being the most altruistic and fair of the four, which really is not saying much. The current head of house is Sebastian Borr.
House Amberhand House is symbol a pitcher, as their ancestor Mrain Amberhand was executed for murdering a rival by pouring a pitcher of molten rock down the throat of a rival. These wealthy dwarves continue the tradition of fear tactics and chaos in order to enforce their power. The current head of house is Klangazarr Amberhand.
