Axum
Established as a Tierysian outpost in the year 1239 BT, Axum served initially as a military garrison and safe haven for the Empire to stage and equip the battalions and advisors that would permanently exist on the mainland of Elix. Over the course of centuries, Axum blossomed into a city large and robust in its own right. Axum, moreover, is the only known Tierysian-founded city outside of Tierys. Come the collapse of the Empire at the end of the Trial for Existence, the city of Axum, still purely Tierysian in culture and society, renounced any allegiance to the devastated nation, fearing reprisal from the nations of Elix for centuries of subjugation. While such did not occur, those of the city began visibly distancing themselves from the ideology of their predecessors and, well into the Age of Rebirth, began seeking to mend relations with their Elixian neighbors. Though many are still cautious of their overlord’s ancestors, trade and migration occurs freely between the small island nation and the mainland.
Today, despite their historical attempts at altering their appearance, Axum exists as the refined concept of the Tierysian Empire. Home to the Axium Arcanum, one of the most prestigious institutions for arcane studies, Axum is home to scholars, inventors, and arcanists that rival even the ingenuity found in the Republic of Valgrad. Many of the magical baubles and tools found across Elix were made here in Axum. Perhaps out of fear, the city houses a large temple complex dedicated to Glemora, the Matron of Knowledge, which works hand-in-hand with the Axium Arcanum in their research and studies. Many aspirant wizards and sorcerers across Elix compete for the opportunity to study or work in this beautiful and immaculate city, disregarding its dark origins.
